Do the model numbers/letters have a meaning?

I have been curious about this and haven't really been able to find an answer via either google or the forums. Does the model number have a meaning, for example the Merkur Classic 38C, is the 38 a size indicator and the C representative of some other feature?

Probably a stupid question I'm sure, but just trying to see if there is a method behind the naming schemes that companies use.

Not a stupid question at all. I don't know the answer, but I'm sure that someone here does.

Welcome and keep those questions coming.

I think the C stands for chrome. I deduced that from the fact that the G in 37G stands for gold. I don't think the numbers mean anything beyond being model numbers.
