    Default Soap Storage

I recently obtained a variety of soaps during my initiation into wetshaving. So far, I have only tried one, because I didn't want to take them all out and having to have 5 different mugs on my counter.

Is there a 'best' way to store your soaps, so that you can try out others, while at the same time not destroying what you already have? Thanks.

I use baggies to store soaps without containers.

Walmart. Kitchen/dishware department. They sell little mini glass bowls with blue plastic lids (made by "Anchor) that fit most soap pucks almost perfectly. They're like 4 for 2 bucks or something like that.

I'm partial to wooden bowls, which I purchase from the Old Dominian Soap Co. I know that, at $7.50 apiece, they're more expensive than those WallyMart bowls, and don't give the hermetic sealing, but this wetshaving thing is, more than less, about esthetics, as much as about BBS shaves.

With a 3-1/2" inner-diameter, these bowls hold the largest soap pucks (without melting), and provide the width and depth for working-up an initial lather-load on the brush, before moving to one's face or mixing bowl.

    As always, YMMV.

    Taz,

Did you order 1 of the four of them or all four of them? Don't you have to buy them in bulk quantities?

You need to order the lid and the bottom separately and you do not need to order a case you can order 1 if you want. Since then I have tried the glass anchor bowls from target they are called custard dishes by the set that comes with the white lids

I highly recommend the Anchor Bowls from Walmart or Target. The ones you want are the 1 cup size. The ones I found at Walmart have blue lids and come in a four pack for $6 ($1.50 a bowl). I think that's a good price, considering these are nice glass bowls with very nice lids. They are stackable, although I doubt I'd stack them higher than four.
The top two in the picture have soap... one is van der Hagen and one is Williams. The soaps in the picture are both about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. However, the bowls are plenty large enough to handle 3 inch soaps, and in the future I will order 3 inch soaps when given a choice.

One tip for getting the soap to stick to the bottom of the bowl: use the flattest side of the soap. Wet the bottom of the soap. Put a layer of water in the bowl. Press the soap down firmly into the water. Hold the soap in place while draining off the water. This creates suction, just like you get better results when wetting a suction cup.

Have fun with your soap acquisition disorders!

Ok, the method I just described worked with the Williams, but it didn't seem to work too well with the van der Hagen deluxe, which is a very soft soap. It still slides around in the bowl. Oh well. Another reason for me to order some 3 inch soaps!
