What's new

A green note that seems to hang around forever

I while ago, I sprayed some R L Polo on one of those little cardboard test sticks in an airport taxfree shop. Being the clumsy person that I am, I got some on my fingers too. Many hours later, I could still feel, not so much a scent as a tingling sensation in my nose, reminiscent of walking across a freshly mowed lawn, if I sniffed my fingers.

I just noticed that Blenheim Bouquet seems to leave the same “tingliness” behind, long after the citrus and pines and pepper and whatnot have gone away.

What is the component that is causing this? Oakmoss?

According to the Penhaligon's website, there is no oakmoss in Blenheim Bouquet - I suspect it has to be a musk and/or spice component from the base notes.

From the Basenotes page for Polo:
Top Notes: Pine , Lavender, Juniper, Artemisia, Bergamot, Cumin, Basil, Green Notes
Middle Notes: Coriander, Marjoram, Jasmin, Carnation, Geranium, Thyme, Rose
Base Notes: Oakmoss, Patchouli, Leather, Cedar, Amber, Musk, Frankinsense

From Penhaligon's page for Blenheim Bouquet:
Top Notes: Lemon, Lime and Lavender
Middle Notes: Blenheim Bouquet has no heart notes
Base Notes: Pine, Musk and Black Pepper

Conifer or pine -- "woodsy" notes.

P.S. Try YSL Pour Homme (original, 1971). It is similar to Blenheim Bouquet, but 1/10 the price!
