    Unhappy Weishi problem

I bought a Weishi TTO mainly because of the low price and curiosity. When I twist it closed tight, one of the doors is slightly raised on one end of the head and doesn't line up evenly with the opposite door on that end. As a result the blade edges sit a little off center when its tightened, with with one end of the blade edge more exposed than the other. I don't see anything that's blocking that end from closing all the way down, and all the other ends close level. I tried shaving with it but stopped halfway through and finished with my Super Speed, because it was like there was no blade in the razor. Is there any kind of easy fix for this?

As a seller and importer of Weishi Razors, I suggest contacting the seller and exchanging it.

Of the thousands we have sold, there are the occasional QC issues, but really no more than the finish issues on Merkur's a few years back, gap variations on Parkers and Feathers, etc.

As for Weishi's (or Parker) being junk, I really do disagree. They serve a niche of folks that want to dip their feet in wet shaving for under $20:
Spending the extra $10-15 for an HD or Jagger is beyond the price point for a new toy

I'll come out and say it, but they don't make 'em like they used to, and I have a few dozen in and out of rotation...Sterilized or not, lots of folks want a new razor and are grossed out by a vintage razor that was once covered in a random grandpa's face goo.

I agree about contacting the seller. Despite the low price, they are fine razors. It's likely a QC issue on the one you got, they should be happy to exchange it for you. I wouldn't be so quick to write it off as junk, I had one and enjoyed it a great deal.

I threw my Weishi away. Next to the sloppy gen, the biggest waste of $15 around.

I've borrowed a couple of butterfly door razors from friends (chinese/indian and vintage gillettes), they're OK, but I prefer simplicity and a smaller head of the 3 peice razor.
I started off with a ball end tech (found it to shave better than the fat handle tech for some reason, maybe handle weight?), and from there went to the NEW as I prefer the open comb.

I used my Weishi I bought w/ a starter kit on this board. It was an ok razor to start off with but I set it aside when my SS (actually SSs) came though the front door. Unfortunately, a common trait for the males in my family is to become emotionally attached to machinery, so I'm keeping my Weshi.

I gave my Weishi away. Couldn't get it to cut whiskers. They are quite well made compared to Parker's though. I really think if Weishi's had more blade exposure they would be a winner.

I tried so bad to like my Weishi.
    I finally threw it away.
    Kept the case though.
Its a great travel case for my superspeed.

Fortunately the seller has a 7 day return policy so I'll be sending back the Weishi. I just ordered a nice Edwin Jagger 3 pc. razor with an ivory/chrome handle. I think it's a DE-87? The price is moderate and it seems to have lots of good reviews everywhere.

I just hold the blade in my fingers and shave.

I got a Weishi for free from a contest @ The Shave Den. Tried to shave with it this morning; way too mild for my tastes, and I shave with a Tech most of the time!! I gave up on it, after the first pass, as it removed very little hair!!

Find yourself a nice quality Superspeed, you will be way better off.

When I returned to DE shaving, the first razor I tried was a Weishi. With a lot of passes, I was able to get about as good a shave as with my Atra, but there was irritation, probably because I'd gone over the same areas so often. When tried a Merkur, it was so much better that I haven't picked up the Weishi since.

It has occurred to me, though, that after a lot of practice with other razors, my technique may have improved to the point where I should give the Weishi one more chance. I do plan to do that, sometime.

Calcustom's comment above about the travel case is a good one. It is perfect for a Superspeed. However, the cheap hinge pins on mine broke, and I had to make replacements with some heavy gauge solid copper wire.

For the price of a Weishi or Parker you can buy a vintage Gillette on the BST.
    As far as the concern and "germ-o-phobia" about new versus old razors;

Do you think that Weishi made in China or that Parker made in India have been built in a clean room?

Have you seen the sanitary conditions in these countries?

I have, and I can tell you that I would be soaking a Weishi or Parker in alcohol just as much as I would a vintage Gillette.

That's actually why I take everything and put it in an autoclave. The good news is that the only diseases which actually concern us such as HIV can (supposedly) last only about an hour outside the body, while the Hepatitis barrels of fun can generally last much longer at a few weeks to a month. This means that we shouldn't really be that concerned. That being said, it's always a good idea to let razors soak in alcohol for a few hours (4-6 hours).

I ordered the Weishi from "ntguys" on Ebay. Fortunately they have a 7 day return policy. I ordered the Edwin Jagger DE87 from highlandmenscare.com . Hopefully it will arrive this week.
