    Default Most aggressive DE razor

Is a Merkur Futur @ 6 .5 the most aggressive DE razor?
I currently use a 37C slant with feather blades, 2 passes only, love the shave but hear so much about the 39C slant. Maybe I should go for a more aggressive razor........ now not sure what to do. your advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I have both the 37C and the 39C and I don't think one is more aggressive than the other, the 39C is just heavier with a longer handle. The heads look identical. I haven't cranked either my Futur or my Vision past the mid-point. I'm not sure I'm that brave.

One of the most aggressive DE's I have used is the old style Muhle R89. I found it a bit too agressive and pulled it from my rotation. I also own a Futur and it is pretty aggressive, but not as much as the R89, at 6.5 it yields a great shave for me.

Agreed on the old R-89; much more aggressive than the slant. I don't use it daily but I don't find it too much; you just have to keep your mind to it during the shave..
I must to the barber's, monsieur, for methinks I am marvellous hairy about the face

Parker 22R is quite aggressive but manageable - gives a great shave when it's set up right.

I don't have a futur to compare it to, but a Barbasol DE is one wickedly aggressive razor.

I hear that, only razor I've owned that was too aggressive for me.

+2, but besides agression it is a good one, I am using mine this week. The Barbasol merits paying serious attention to whilst it is in motion, but delivers a very close shave .. I haven't tried a Futur but the Barbasol has more juice than a Sledgehammer Slant ..

But to answer the second question, I wouldn't go more aggressive unless your beard dicates it, I would gladly dial it down if I could still cut whiskers o'mine ..

    Quick question...

Is the old style muhle R-89 more aggressive than the new (current) style..

I've been thinking about one of the new ones... I need a little more aggression in my life!

No way they are alike; the new one is much milder (more like the Merkur HD or even less) than the old one. The only 2 things they share is the name and the fact that they are both meant to shave with.

    Completely different beast!

Here is the review of the old style Muhle R89.

The new version is called the R41 and it is much much milder than the old R89. I use my R41 all of the time, the old style R89 was just too much for me.

I picked up an R89 recently on BST, and so far (3 shaves in) it has been very generous to me. Great shaves without any issues. I have been using it with an Iridium and I suspect that is one key to my success so far. With that said, I would concur that it is quite an aggressive beast.

A Parker 22R with a Merkur blade is a perfect combo for my travel kit. I always get a very smooth BBS with this combo. The Parker 22R is inexpensive so if the Homeland Security inspector steals it no big deal.
