Default Great Beer for a Scotch or Bourbon drinker...

I am a big fan of scotch. I am a big fan of bourbon. I am a big fan of beer. Maybe I am just a big fan of alcohol in general, however, I wanted to put this out for all you bourbon and scotch drinkers out there...

You must try Founders Backwoods Bastard while it is available. I had my first taste of this once a year limited release last night, and it was fantastic. Founders takes its normal scotch ale/wee heavy (very malty and a little figgy and a little smokey) and ages it in used oak bourbon barrels. The result is amazing.

I poured mine into a snifter and I immediately sensed a very pleasing vanilla scent. I could definitely taste the bourbon influence from the barrels. It is not very carbonated you will notice different taste profiles as the beer begins to warm. Most definitely a sipper by the fire on a brisk winter night! I usually don't pair beer and cigars, however, I think that this beer would hold up. If you can find it, you should give it a try! Cheers.

This sounds fantastic. Looks like the only way I'll get any is internet.

One of the things I really miss from my two years living in Lexington, KY was Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale...an average pale ale aged in used Maker's Mark barrels for 72 hours...woowee!

Backwoods Bastard is awesome. A local guy just opened up a fine beer store and pointed me towards a bottle. It is a great sippin' beer. The bourbon barrel influence is amazing.

Ah, Founders - the beer from my hometown of Grand Rapids, MI. Great brewery and tap room if you ever get the chance to visit. They don't make much that I don't drink like a thirsty man coming out of the desert.

    Default Beam Porter

The following is sometimes available from a local brewhouse - it's amazing. Dark beer + bourbon barrel aging = delicious.

    BEAM PORTER
Aged in Jim Beam barrels. Appropriately loaded with vanilla, coconut, and bourbon flavors from the oak. Deep, dark, roasty, and chocolaty brown flavors abound from the chocolate malt and black patent malt. With medium body, medium bitterness, and velvet mouth feel, this black beauty is sure to please. 5.4% alcohol by volume.

Perfect for a cold snowy night....

I used to live 2 buildings down when they were still in the Brass Works building. I miss it.
