Saw 21 Jump Street, Man on a Ledge, and Safe House, all on one long plane flight. Thought 21 Jump Street was very funny. Good comedy. Safe House was entertaining and action-filled. Hard to follow, but worth watching. Man on a Ledge was okay.

Battle Royale. Its a Japanese movie with subtitles:
The premise, each year a randomly-selected rotten apple 9th grade class is kidnapped and sent to a deserted island where they are equipped with weapons and are forced to kill each other until one survivor is left. Yeah its like lord of the flies or hunger games but more extreme. It had alot of violence and there were subtitles but it held my attention the whole way through. I liked it.

King Solomon's Mines (1950) - This one has been on my watchlist forever, and I finally got around to it. This was a very beautifully shot film, and was definitely worth a watch. The ending was a little flat for me, though, but it was a solid film.

Sherlock Holmes (2009) - Being an old movie buff, I generally like the older SH movies, but this was a fun popcorn flick. I am looking forward to seeing the sequel before too long.

Them! (1954) - Gotta love giant *spoilers* due to evil radiation. Old-school sci-fi FTW!

The Thing (2011) - I was expecting a little more originality out of this, but I enjoyed it. I absolutely loved the creature effects and hope someone will give the creature more screentime in the future.

Around the World in Eighty Days (1956) - I really enjoyed the book, and the film did not disappoint. I didn't know so before watching it, but this won a boatload of awards. (Given the volume of awards, I am surprised this didn't crack the AFI top 100.) David Niven was perfect Phileas Fogg. This film was also beautifully shot, but unfortunately the amazing scenery makes the running time just shy of three hours, which may be a little long for some folks.

Larry Who Lives at Home--Perhaps quirky and very much an independent film in all respects of feel, but I thought warmly funny and human. Surprisingly affecting.

Took SWMBO to see The Batman Trilogy yesterday. We saw Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises all in one sitting. First time we had seen one of these movie marathons together. Saw some interesting people, the best was the guy dressed like The Joker. The 30plex where this was held had 2 auditoriums in Imax and 4 in regular. All 30 screens had The Dark Knight Rises at 12:01 and they all let out at the same time, which made for some interesting times in the parking lot afterwards. Tempers did flare and saw a fistfight or two. A guy in a BMW decided to he did not have to wait and pulled around driving by all these cars that were waiting their turn when some guy in some old beater pickup truck just plowed into the side of the Beemer. drove it into one of the concrete pedestals of the parking lot lights. Then just sat there with the car pinned to the light. I guess he figured he was in trouble so why run.

With this in mind my thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the shooting in CO. What drives someone to do something that horrorific?

Saw the Dark Knight Rises at 12:00 Am last night. I liked it...a little slow to start and its long( around 2hrs 45min). Also kinda hard to understand Bane sometimes with the mask he has on. Overall though, it was a great movie and worth a watch.

I saw "Ted" yesterday. It wasn't "good" by any stretch, but it had it's funny moments. I laughed out loud on several occasions.

I, too, saw The Dark Knight Rises last night. As a Batman fan, I was very unimpressed. The others in the trilogy (which were the best Batman movies to me) had a good mix of back story, drama, and action. This one seemed to be way too much back story and drama for me. It drug in many parts and almost lost me completely when Bane sounded like Sean Connery.

I'm sure I'll get put in my place for this, but this was by far the worst of the trilogy for me.

Pulp Fiction and El Cid. Both movies I have seen many times before and enjoy every time I see 'em. The LOTH and I will be going to see the Batman movie early next week when the cinemas are a bit less crowded.

The Artist. Don't read about it before you see it. Just see it! If you like movies, and you would not be reading this if you did not like movies, you must see this one.

The new Conan. It just came out on Netflix. Good hack and slash up until the last fight scene and then they had to come up with some stupid set and that fight on the wheel. Still, decent enough brainless movie.

    On two transatlantic flights....

Sherlock Holmes 2 - first one was better. Disjointed and slightly dull despite the non stop action.
Wrath of the Titans - see above, word for word.
Hunger Games - better than the two above, but only slightly. Overly long, lacked any real passion.
John Carter - a hot mess, but not the good kind.

As you can see, when faced with a plethora of movie choices, I only watch the trash

Warrior - as I rattled off a list of candidates, this was the only one my wife and her sister seemed remotely interested in. None of us were enthusiastic about it, but we gave it a try and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We're not talking Rocky or The Wrestler here, but it was well enough written and a thoroughly enjoyable fight film.
