My son and I finally saw The Dark Knight Rises (2012) last night. We absolutely loved it and thought it was a great way to wrap up the trilogy. I hope they can figure out some way to have Nolan return and see what he can do from here. *crosses fingers*

STRIKE, a 1925 Russian silent film. I preferred Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin (one of my favorite silents), but his Strike was also good. I wasn't prepared for the ending scene of the slaughter of the workers, cross-cut with the slaughter of a cow. That was pretty brutal. Here's the link, if anyone has the stomach.

Ironclad. Not the greatest movie by any means, but some of the fight scenes were amazing...this being that you can stomach seeing someone cut from the collarbone down to the navel.

A friend of mine on FB is in love with Don Logan from "Sexy Beast", he keeps posting quotes and clips there. I have it on DVD but hadn't watched it in a while, so last night, as the missus is away and it's not really a chick-flick, I watched it again.

If there was ever a nastier screen villain than Don Logan, I don't want to see it. Evil personified. Epic performance from Sir Ben.

Should you never have seen a British gangster movie, this is the one you should watch.

Dazed and Confused (1993) - Finally caught this on Encore over the weekend, and I really enjoyed it. The soundtrack was amazing. I wonder if they really hazed the incoming freshmen like that in the mid-70's? I was 5 in 1976, so I am no help in that matter. :)

The Spiral Staircase (1945) - I had high hopes for this one. I really liked the premise, but the movie didn't click for me. The atmosphere was great, but the film would have been better off as a short (think Twilight Zone) in my opinion. It was good to see once, but I won't have to see it again.

The Melbourne International Film Festival opened last Thursday. It opened with "The Sapphires", a nice flick about four aboriginal girls who go to Vietnam to sing for the troops. Also has Chris O'Dowd in it from The IT Crowd and Bridesmaids. The big surprise for me was how good Jessica Mauboy was; she finished pretty high up in a series of Australian Idol. She sang at the after party and was terrific.

The other one I picked up was a Takashi Miike film called "Hari Kari - Death Of A Samurai". Let's just say it didn't end well for the samurai?

Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy. It was ok. Gary Oldman was good and great cast of characters. However, it was hard to follow what was going on. Characters not developed very well and movie skipped around alot. I can see how this would make a good tv show(and yes I know it was)...just too much story to cram into a two hour movie.
