Harvard University Streamng Radio

For those who don't know, Harvard University radio: whrb.org provides a very high quality stream. And 2X/year they schedule an incredible selection of unusual and educational radio during the students' study period. The WHRB radio orgies are worth recording and the Winter Orgy has just begun.

Some of the best (in my opinion) for this year include: Flamenco music, starting at 5am Monday, December6; Wednesday at 5am they are playing 12 hours of the jazz royals: Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Nat King Cole, etc.; 5am Friday morning they are starting an 8-hour orgy or Radiohead; December 14 at 5am they are beginning a 12 hour (or more) orgy of jazz giant Yuaf Lateef. There is a Chopin orgy and quite a bit of classical. Check out the schedule & pick what you like. You can find programs to capture the streams and have an incredible collection of hard-to-find classics.

All for free!

Just to remind you jazz fans -- tomorrow morning, December 14, 2009 at 5:00am EST the Yusaf Lateef orgy begins on Harvard Radio. From the program guide: A celebration of Dr. Yusef Lateef (b. 1920), 2010 Nation Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master and living legend of jazz music. Lateef, a virtuoso of such reed instruments as the tenor saxophone, flute, oboe, bamboo flute, shanai, shofar, argol, sarewa, and taiwan koto, has performed professionally around the world for over 70 years and influenced countless listeners and musicians. We will explore his expansive catalogue of recordings, which covers diverse stylistic areas: jazz, classical, world music, and R&B in what he has called autophysiopsychic music, music from one’s spiritual, physical and emotional self. We will also have an interview Yusef Lateef.

Enjoy !
