    Default Rooney 1/2 personal impressions

I recently acquired a new Rooney 1/2 Super Badger, with faux horn handle, from VintageBlades and I used it only twice, but I find it too big for my hand and face.

As a beginner I thought bigger was better, but it is clearly a case of ymmv, some people with bigger hands may love it.

It is definitely very soft and luxurious and it can make tons of lather, I think if you try hard enough it can even lather pure water

I am now searching for a smaller size brush and looking to post the Rooney 1/2 in the "for sale" forum once I am allowed to and figure out how this whole selling thing works with Paypal and all. This sport can get expensive quickly.

What grade badger did you get? I have one in Best coming (hopefully) tomorrow that I traded for on here. I actually thought the 1/1 would be a better size, but since the 1/2 was a trade and thus didn't cost me any money I went for it.

I got the 1/2 in Super, it is very soft to the face even though the backbone is stiff, works wonders on hard soaps, they cannot stand a chance.

It looks very nice and really wished it were a little smaller for me.

Just got my T&H badged 1/2 Super the other day. I've only had 3 brushes in my life; a $30 Omega boar that was scrubby and flicky, and my recently bought 'beginners' Vulfix 849, so I wasn't really prepared for this kind of gear.

This is one classy brush; it just oozes quality. It's got a nice, stubby, fat handle that fits just right in my palm for a nice grip at the base of the knot. Makes my Vulfix look anaemic, and slightly scared.

I mainly face lather and this is super soft, yet firm. But it blooms up big - it's like a mutant mushroom. I never realised it would be this dense and big. But with my first few shaves and it doesn't seem to be a problem at all, it kind of binds together when it's full of lather.

I've built a few bowls to get used to using it, and to help clean it, and I've never seen such an avalanche of meringue in my bowl; this thing lathers like a pack of rabid Rottweilers. The amount of lather I used for my Vulfix is just way too much for this beast.

This isn't good; with the soap and creams I've amassed, I'll still have enough to shave with when the cockroaches rule the earth...

I just got a 1/2 in super silvertip from Vintage Blades as well. I previously owned the 1/1 and actually found it to be too small for daily use, so I sold it to another member. Honestly, the 1/2 is not a large brush -- it seems very average in size, but many people just prefer the smaller brushes.

My impression is that I find that it's actually a bit stiff and more difficult to build lather with creams either of my two Shavemacs of comperable size. This is definitely better for those who like soaps and prefer to face lather.

I find the 1/2 super to be just exactly perfect for face-lathering hard soaps.

I'm glad to see that some prefer the 1/2, it means I won't have a problem finding a new loving home for it.

I traded for a great 1/2 in best, but I am trying a trial trade with a friend for a 1/1 in Super. We will see how that goes, but it really is a great brush. Any idea what you will be offering it for?

I do not want to turn this into a selling thread, but it will be cheaper than what I paid for it, of course. This hobby of ours is an expensive sport, losses add up quickly to the benefit of the wise buyer who buys used

Be careful with this decision. I had a 1/2 in Super which I loved, but wanted in a smaller size. So, I traded it for a 1/1 which I love. Now, I'm getting another 1/2 because I found out that I like bigger brushes more than I thought I did...

Ah, but that's part of the fun! If we loved the first thing we tried, what would we spend our money on? We'd be done with this hobby in a week.

The point is that you might not want to be in such a hurry to get rid of this one...

I find the size 2 loft/knot size to be too big for my taste, but I do like the bigger handles. I sold off all my Rooney brushes except for the 2/1 which I really like. At some point I'd like to try a 3/1...

I have the 1/2 in super and I honestly don't think I will ever need another brush - it's perfect. I do have a Vulfix 2234 but it hasn't seen a single use since the Rooney.

I saw a Vulfix 2234S at a local cutlery store and it looked weak and floppy, not to mention it was way overpriced at $95.

Honestly after using a Rooney, they might just have to become my brush of choice. I'm thinking a 1/1 and a 1/2 ought to pretty much keep me happy forever.
