    Default Yet another Australian Wet-Shaver

    Hi everyone!
Well, I'm brand new to the concept of wet shaving, but I've been doing a lot of reading about it all and would love to give it a try.

Currently my shaving setup is a Mach3, and Schick shaving gel, which is the only set-up I've found that doesn't cut or abrade my skin. Electric razors seem to mangle the skin, and Fusion just left me with cuts.

Despite the setup that I've found, I can't actually get a close shave - I'm left with a very fine stubble after each shave. I always go with the grain.

And so this brings me to DE shaving - I'm hoping it's a solution to my problems!

I'm now looking for what I should buy to start myself off (considering that I'm certainly not in a position to spend much money on this). I'm assuming the $10 razors on e-bay would be a bad start! I would appreciate any tips anyone could give me.

    Thanks so much!

    Paul

if you can find a 'tech' or 'superspeed' on ebay, theyre good razors to start with

Welcome aboard. I'm a newbie as well, but a Merkur 34C is a good starter razor. If you can find a sample pack of blades with several to try, that would help you find which blades work best for you. I'm sure you'll get a bunch more advice.

    Good luck.

    welcome to b&b!

I'd get a cheap tech, clean it up, sampler blade pack and cheap boar brush. Then pick between soap or cream, Palmolive/Mennen make a good cheap soap you can get in Aus too.

Check the B/S/T forum, and post a Want to Buy, and I'd be willing to bet you'll soon find yourself deluged with shaving supplies...

Another newbie checking in here :)

I came from cartridge & electric and got into wet-shaving last month (after many months of researching B&B).

Got few nicks and a weeper the first 2 weeks, nothing major after until yesterday when I got cocky and use Merkur blade on underchin and got burned. I also accidentally achieve BBS (or very close to it) a couple of times - I almost freaked out when I could touch my chin and felt no hair.

Currently resisting AD as much as I can. That said, I'm looking for usable vintage razor - anyone knows where to start looking in Melbourne (Australia)?

Also interested in reviews of Zenith brush & scuttle plus Comoy pure badger brush. I've seen them around here but can't tell whether they're good buy or not.

Anyway, off to find mantic's videos now :)

I didn't have any luck finding anything in Melbourne. The only thing that I'm able to find is shaving cream that no one seen before...

Welcome to you too. Find out from someone where best in Australia to get a sampler pack. Those Merkurs are crap.

Finding the right blade will set you free.
