Default I just have to tell this story.

I came home today to something that I found hilarious, and figured that I would share it with you all, since it may be appreciated.
When I got home, my wife of 5 years greeted me at the door, all smiles, with the warning that I would be in trouble if I touched the blueberry pie she had made this morning for thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. Well I just had to see this, since she has never made a pie before and I wanted to check it out. So out of the fridge comes the pie, and I take a look. I notice that the crust looks kinda strange, and is very VERY brittle. So I break off a little piece and take a nibble. What I receive, instead of delicious moist pie crust is hard, dry, and probably the saltiest thing I have ever tasted.
After a few moments of exclamation and wonderment over what exactly was going on, I asked if she had put salt in the filling instead of sugar and she said no, the only salt in the pie was the 3/4 of a cup she had put in the crust dough. Well, my mouth dropped....3/4 of a CUP? Yes, she had indeed put in 3/4 of a cup, and was adamant that the recipe had called for it, so I open the cookbook, and show her the entry stating 3/4 of a teaspoon and she just about fainted. I died laughing.
All is however well, the pie went in the trash and she is in the process of making another one with the correct amount of salt. Thank God I was to curious enough to not leave this one alone or that could have been very embarrassing when we went to serve my our homemade blueberry pie tomorrow!

Had the same experience at my house one thanksgiving. She buys in bulk so she had two big jars. One with sugar and the other with salt. She used salt instead of suger in a pumpkin pie. Only difference was that I didn't get nosey. She had all the kids there. Everyone was done and grabbing desert. Seems everybody took a bite about the same time. Luckily she made three other kinds of pie and got them right.

I had the same experience except I was the one who did it. Tasted like butternut squash pie.

I would have hated to take a big bite of this thing, just the crust was enough to bring tears to my eyes!

    That's pretty much buttery play-doh :-P

When I was around 8-10 years old my friend wanted me to help make a cake for his mom's birthday. Unsupervised kids that we were, we tried out best to follow the recipe, but ended up accidentally exchanging the flour for icing sugar. It turned out as pretty sweet pudding...

Doolittle Lynn got the same treatment from "Loretty" in "Coal Miner's Daughter" if I recall my movie trivia correctly.

Ahh...can't give her too much crap. My wife has been cooking for me for the past 8 years. I've eaten every meal. I just started cooking myself to ease her burden and because for some strange reason, I'm starting to look at it as a hobby.

I made a pumpkin pie last night that called for softened butter in the pie mix. Unfortunately it didn't mix well and I couldn't figure out how to get the tiny butter chunks to completely dissolve in the pie (you weren't supposed to melt it first...directions said soften).

Well, long story short it came out of the oven looking like a young teen's pimply face...all the oil from the butter had floated to the surface of the pie.

Lesson learned: read and think about your recipies and dont blindly follow them LOL!

Excellent advise right there, just a pinch of common sense can cure 3/4 of a cup of salt
