Getting Started with Straights

So I am interested in trying straight razor shaving. The last time I was getting my hair cut I asked the barber if he could get me a straight. He yelled at me and told me I was crazy! He said that you need a license to use a straight razor. I asked him how he got a razor if he never practiced. Anyway, he sent me away and said that I should think long and hard about it. If I still wanted one when I came back for my next haircut he would get me one.

I have a couple of questions for you guys:

1. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive straight (possibly a holder to put in a disposable)? I don't want to put tons of money into a straight at first because I don't know if I will like shaving with a straight.

2. Are there any good videos out there like Mantic's for DE shaving?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm surprised by your barber's attitude...

A straight shave isn't bad in any way. I think it's a great experience.

I wouldn't recommend a shavette to try it. You can find cheap, shave-ready razors on BST. I would go for one of those.

Get a strop and you're on! The feeling isn't the same with a shavette. A real straight is much better!

For videos, I always check those: http://www.youtube.com/jockeys41

what luc said, he beat me to it.

theres no way you need a licence to use it, you just need a license to use it on other people (and charge them)

I feel like this has happened before.

The great thing about straight razors is that they generally hold their value.
