VDH used like a shave stick?

I am sitting here wondering something. I used Nuetrogena shave cream today and loved it. You do not lather that cream, you rub it on your face and shave. I am visually impaired and can not seem to make a good lather from VDH, Williams, or some creams. I make paste or foam. Here is what I want to know, could you rub the wet bar on a wet face and get a slick coating to shave with without lathering with a brush?

Rub the bar on your face and use your moistened fingertips to agitate it a bit.

Dont give up on your brush.
Just use the puck like a shave stick and then face lather.
You will get better distribution and not lose the other benefits (exfoliation, lifting the hair etc) that the brush provides.
I do this when I use Williams because for some reason and I get a better lather.

If you rub the puck all over your face and then lather on your face with a brush you can get an outstanding lather, absolutely.

I just reused a deodorant stick dispenser, microwaved a puck of VDH to melt it and poured it in.

I lined the deodorant dispenser with waxed paper because the "piston" wasn't solid. You'd have to adapt the process according to what you're working with.

Mama Bear's sells empty saving stick dispensers for this purpose.

This has become my favorite way to use shave soap, frankly.

Be cautious with the melting process. Just 10 seconds at a time.

Until they become available, you can get the same effect by just picking up the puck and rubbing it on your face. It's a little messier, I guess.

I refilled a vintage mini shave stick with nuked VDH and it works great. The deodorant idea is certainly nice, and for those looking for a compact travel stick, think of all those lip balm sticks you'll never use.

My vintage Williams stick could be re-created by melting VDH in to any tube, taking the cylinder of soap and sticking it on any convenient base. Pill bottles come to mind.

There are lots of good pre-made sticks out there. Besides Tabac, Palmolive and Arko, there are sticks in an amazing variety of scents available from the fantastic soap makers who frequent the forum.

I find myself face lathering more and more, and appreciating the virtues of the humble shave stick because of this.

I do this all the time with a variety of soaps and creams ... tonight, I tried it for the first time with Tabac soap. I just wet my hand, rubbed it on the puck in the ceramic bowl, then rubbed my fingers on my beard. It took two or three times to build up sufficient lather, but I got a great shave from it. That's all that counts.

I've gone brushless with MWF, Williams, L'Occ Cade, Provence Sante, and now Tabac. Same with more creams than I can count. It works great.

You don't have to use a brush. Really, you don't.
