Default All mine! Minty Shulze with MOP inlay & possible tortoise shell

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=320441703316

Its on its way to me now. Unless I've been seriously worked over.

Anyway, I got it for way way less than my max bid. I'm 90% sure the tortoise shell & mop inlay is genuine due to the thickness, looks, and a comment by Max. Actually, I'm pretty sure I got this for a song compared to what its true value is.

For comparison, I got it for less than a new Dovo Rennaissance.

    Nice piece of art!

Zero bids and you got it? How did you do that?

Seller said send him an offer in the description. I asked him what he wanted and it was a lot less than what my max bid was. :) Even bargained him down to include shipping & insurance.

    Its here!

    And better than the pictures.

First off, its definitely 'tortoise' shell. Yes, I am probably lower than Vick for desiring it. But you know what, I'm recycling. The blade is so minty, possibly never honed. Ok, I have no idea what the lining is. Finally, the wedge is made from some sort of metal. I'm going to guess aluminum, even though it could be steel for all i know. Or silver.

Finally got to shave with it. No shave testing needed to be done today.

It shaves crappy, you should go look elsewhere for a good razor. ;)

edit: I guess I'm bad at internet humor. The shave was fantastic. Easily the best shave I've had in a while. Buttery smooth and fantastic in every way imagineable.

Sorry to hear it doesn't shave as good as it looks.

You bring up an interesting point about natural materials such as ivory and tortoise shell. On vintage blades, I have no problem with the stuff. Something died long ago to provide the material, so we should use it and appreciate it. Otherwise, the death is a complete waste.

I think he was being sarcastic about the shave...

The problem with natural materials: Using found material may be OK. But what happens when there is demand is that some people decide that the profit makes it worth "finding" sources that aren't dead yet...

Yeah, I was a little slow yesterday.

Take ivory for example. I have quite a few vintage razors with scales made from it. One look at them and it is easy to see that the scales are original - the ivory is clearly old. Could someone have faked it? Probably. But they didn't make any money for their efforts. I paid far too little for any of the razors to have made it worth their while. So long as the price is right and there is nothing suspicious, I'd prefer to enjoy these materials than let them go to waste.

I don't think theres any money to be made faking antique stuff.

The money is in the people who demand new items. Those rat bastards...
