My buddy has the Blendtec; truly truly amazing. Used it for soup when I was over; my soup has since become a joke and brings me shame in comparison.

    +1 blendtec

One thing about the blendtec, 20 amps. That's one circuit. Make sure to turn your lights off before you crank that sucker up or you'll trip a breaker.

What Waring do you recommend? My gpa just fried out the Hamilton beach we got for him a few years ago, he tends to burn through blenders making Potato Pancakes every other week or so. Apparently blenders don't like purifying raw potatoes!

The Warings and Kitchenaids get the job done. And then some.

I use the Oster. I have a beehive and Oster Bar Blender (1/2 HP) which are completely awesome. But honestly, the Kitchenaid does a better job with ice. but then, you can't get the bar blender anymore and my beehive is at least 40 years old. Neither will ever burn out, and they receive daily use.

If it were me, I'd spend $300 on a commercial blender like a Blendtec or Waring extreme.

I am a Kitchen Aid convent from the Breville ones and it is fantastic. I think it was the number 1 rated blender in Cooks Illustrated as well.

I have an Oster blender. It's a 'beehive' shape with two speeds, and it's been fine with ice. I've had it for about 7 years with no problems. Sure, that doesn't compare to the $400 blenders that will get passed down to future generations, but it works. I like the Oster models as they seem to be the only ones (shy of the $400 models ) that have metal, rather than plastic, drive connectors between the base and the glass jar.

Get the Kitchenpro spoontech. Only $59.95 at www.kitchenpro/spoontech.com, plus shipping and handling of course. It typically has a long slender handle, and then the business end is much wider and ready for action!
Be there or be square. Only I can do both!
I've got a cat named Beefeater and a dog named Beefeater, and two goldfish called Beefeater and Beefeater. There's Beefeater my hamster and Beefeater my horse, and my piglet, known as Beefeater of course.

    My Cuisinart works well.

I had a Waring Pro, and now a Kitchenaid. I like the Kitchenaid better. The pitcher is bigger, I prefer polycarbonate to glass, and I actually think the motor feels more powerful. More often than not we use the blender for margaritas. Crushing ice is probably one of the hardest things for a blender to tackle. The Waring started getting that acrid smell from an over-worked motor pretty quickly.

I don't know if it's available anymore, but I got a 3-speed version at Costco for about $50. The typical 5-speed version you see at most stores is $100 to $150 (chrome and nickel finishes are more pricey). As far as I can tell the differences are the 2 extra speeds, an "ice crushing" feature (mine crushes ice fine without it), and a slightly nicer lid. Not worth the extra cost IMO.

Krups makes a great blender. 1000 watts, stainless steel housing, glass container, easy to clean, works great.

I just checked and apparently there's a lot of remakes available. I don't know how good they are. What I'm talking about is something like this in either white or chrome plate:

Based on this thread, and this link, I ended up with a gorgeous vintage Oster . . . the real deal, not the remake.

For $25! A new $25 blender is a piece of crap. This thing's a tank and will probably outlast me.

If you want one that's bulletproof, get a Vita-Mix (http://www.vita-mix.com/). My in-laws have had one since the 1970's and I've had a used one from eBay for 5 years. Not pretty, but they'll produce the smoothest frappes I've ever had from a blender. The low speed are fairly quiet, but the high speeds are ferocious.
+1 on the Vita-Mix. Very powerful blender, it will make great Margheritas and also subs as a stump grinder.
