Thank you, I haven't used any other brushes since I restored these two and I'm very happy with my first restoration attempt. My BAD is in full remission as a result.

    Default A Butterscotch Restore

Found this guy at a local flea market. I liked the handle, but the brush needed to go.

    Chopped off the top.

Drilled it out. I used a 1/4 inch drill to start and finished with a Dremel grinder bit (in my drill).

The new knot. It's a 20mm Silvertip Grade A from Golden Nib (great turnaround on the order! Thanks Tony!)

    The completed restore.

That was a fun one! I've got one of my grandfather's old brushes that I'll do next.

Some gorgeous brushes there, gents! I can't decide which I like best.

Here are a couple others I've done:

Plus I decided that this handle would look better with a black badger knot, so I switched it out.

Finished another one. There was a gash at the top of the handle, so I got to try out wet sanding for the first time. I think it worked out pretty well. There's just a small indentation left, and a bit of discoloration. Or, to be more accurate, I suppose a tiny spot that isn't discolored anymore. Unfortunately, it looks as if, way back when, someone left the brush on the stove while they heated their shave water, or something. There's a brownish discoloration and some surface cracks across the bottom. But I think that gives it a little more sense of history.

There are a lot of great restored brushes on this thread but I really like this one the best. It is very clean looking and I like the loft and the handle hight, well done!

Here's my faux-ivory Ever-Ready, fresh from her maiden voyage across my face. I think I've found my own, personal sweet-spot for these Finest knots at a 45mm loft.

I am really liking these black and white ever-ready brushes I am seeing. It gives me hope that the restores I have coming up are going to turn out well.

I am thinking about trying to collect some images of the ever-ready imprints on some of these brushes to digitize them and get some line art images that can used on an engraving machine or cnc mill. I am hoping that maybe it would be a way of preserving the lettering from disappearing in those times when sanding needs to be done to clean up the brushes. I wonder if we could get a repository of that sort of thing going.

That's a really cool idea. Let us know how it works out.

My first go around at refinishing handles. I got these from Jack-In-The-Green not to long ago. I just got the knots in today. They aren't set in epoxy yet, but I thought I would put these up. My favorite I think ended up being the Rubberset black and butterscotch handle. Reminds of Black and Tans, and who doesn't like drinking those during the winter.

I had to get these when I saw the lot for sale on BST. Ther maroon one and a red and black one are great for me and my brother. I am at Texas A&M and my brother went to Texas Tech. So why not some college color! Don't worry Aggies, I got ol' Rock covered. 26mm knot in a short stubby handle.

I could see myself having a bit of fun doing more of these.

Hmph. I could have sworn that I posted this before, but I guess it got swallowed by the Internet black hole. So let's try this again.

Sueto - Those restores look fantastic! Much better than they did when I sent them to you. I like the white in the stripes at the bottom of the maroon. It gives it a bit more interest. And I agree, taking the seams off the black and gold is a major improvement. Very nice work, indeed.

Default XMAS Gifts for my son!

I had an idea to restore a couple of brushes as a Christmas gift for my son. I thought I would do a full-size and a travel-size. Then I realized I could somewhat keep a theme on their appearance. The larger is an Ever-Ready 300 with a TGN A-Grade Silvertip in 22mm. It is set to approximately a 50mm loft. The travel brush is a Klenzo with a TGN A-Grade Silvertip in 18mm. It is set to approximately a 45mm loft. They both still have some blooming to do as I think they are at about 1/2.

Be easy on me, these are my first two restorations. Learned the hard way what happens when the drill bit skips across the handle!

p.s. Obviously I have mad skillz in photography...better next time!

I love those lucite handles. How do you guys get the knicks and scratches out of them?
