I have less than 100 Blades.
I have less than 250 Blades. But more than 100.
I have less than 500 Blades. But more than 250.
I have less than 1000 Blades. But more than 500.
I have less than 3000 Blades. But more than 1000.
I have more than 5000 Blades!
I have about 100 in a sampler my mum got for me as a graduation gift. I found that I like Feather and Timor, so I ordered 50 Feathers (still looking for the Timors). I'm only 23 now, so I need to really stock up for the inevitable shavepocalypse that will occur during my lifetime (Assuming, of course, God doesn't call me home early).

I didn't say anything about bulk purchases. I see no problem with buying a bulk pack of blades to save money I have done that myself. But people on here hoard thousands of them and still buy more. There are people on here that have several decades worth of blades. A 100 pack will last me around two years, so 1000 will last me 20 years. There are people on here that brag about having 3000+ blades in stock, based on my average usage of a blade a week that is over 60 years worth of blades. Like I said, what is the point?
I have far too much stuff to even begin to list it here...
I thought this is a public venue where people meet and exchange ideas. I see the OP as curious about how many blades do people have stockpiled. For whatever reason he might have.
Is this a pointless question:
and what would someone that questions everyone else's "point" think of this question?
At first I thought the "what's the point" question was just a toddlerish curiosity but then I realized this will not go away unless we answer to someone's satisfaction.
People go to pubs and drink while others enjoy hoarding blades. Who am I to pass judgement? With all honesty, I answered the OP question without realising my post would be considered bragging. I am not. And will not pass judgement on anyone who comes on a public forum and shows us their room full of shaving stuff. The point is, if it makes them happy so be it. I love a good deal, and got blades at a third of the regular price.
There is more to say but will leave it here.
Like someone's signature says:
"I have far too much stuff to even begin to list it here..."
Peace.
I haven't passed judgement on a soul, but you have. I merely asked what is the point? Someone could have just answered the question directly. People do brag about the sheer quantity of stuff they own, personally I have a few creams too many, but not enough to out last my life expectancy. I see the point in collecting razors, they can be considered an investment and I can see how they can make someone happy as often they have to be restored and clean. Also they can be displayed in an attractive fashion and become a talking point. The same could be said of brushes. But blades are consumables, something that can be bought every day. People suggest that it is to save money by buying in bulk, so I can see that a couple of hundred is a saving. But to invest several hundred dollars, pounds, or euros in a consumable product, just makes no sense to me.

Blades make great gifts. If you have friends into DE shaving they sure appreciate a sleeve of their favourite make or a couple of tucks of new blades to try.
Blades don't go bad, at least not in my lifetime. Creams on the other hand... Buying bulk when prices fall is one way of "investing". At the end of the day we are talking of hundreds, at the most.
Manufacturers close down or close a particular line, and if it happens to be the one I enjoy and works best for me, I would be happy to have stocked.
There is much more to say but we are already hijacking this thread.
No one is bragging. The sheer quantity is a relative term.
I'll put this to rest and hope you guys get your answers.
I'm not bragging when I say I have a more than a lifetime supply of everything shaving. It is SEVERE AD. It is something I had before joining B & B. After joining B & B it got out of control. The cure for this is only in my mind with self control.

Now this is a shavers poll!
Ouch! I've been telling myself for some time that I'm "prepared" rather than being a hoarder, and there must be many more just like me. But unless you're all lying, there are a lot less of us in the 5,000+ blade club than I wanted to believe.
I think accusing people of bragging is a bit strong. When someone writes that they have 5,000 blades, it is a statement of fact. Reading into it that they have an intention to brag is a guess at best. I would imagine that people make those statements with a whole range of emotions going through their heads as they write. Pride? Embarassment? Relief at sharing? Boastfulness? It could be any of those things but I wouldn't be prepared to make a judgement and say people are bragging.
btw, I currently have about 300-350 blades. More than I need but my story is that I can't resist a good deal![]()
Reading this thread with interest. If collecting / stockpiling different razor blades blows your hair back, then be happy and do it. If you love shooting, you may want to keep lots of bullets, if you play golf you might be forgiven for keeping many golf balls, and and and... I can see myself having 2000 blades on hand easily, as I love buying anything to do with self grooming, especially shaving. Its my little obsession that hurts nobody. Its not like I am taking food off the table to buy razors.

Just over 1,200 blades, I think. Mostly Feather (a bit over 900), followed by Voskhod (approx. 195) and BIC (just over 100) and a handful of other brands.
I have about a thousand. Mostly 7 o'clock Blacks and Yellows, Timors, Med Preps, and Personna Reds. FWIW, I just saw 140 7 o'clock Blacks on Fleabay for $45, so now I have about 1140. I have enough for awhile, and I only add when I see the right blade at a right price.
I wish I would have hoarded some vintage blades from years ago. Could have sent the kids to college on their sale.
To Speedwell's question, the reason I have purchased in any quantity is that I am fairly certain that at least some of my favorite blades will not be produced in the future. For a small investment, I can be assured of using them well into the future. I like that. Also, I think that is the flaw in your question. Many of these blades will not be "readily available" in the future. Just a couple years ago Iridium Supers were easy to find pretty cheap. Now....good luck. In ten years, get your wallet ready.

A couple of years ago, I stocked up the only two blades I have come to love and use day after day:
- 700 Gillette 7OC Super Platinum (Indian Black)
- 500 Gillette 7OC PermaSharp (Indian Green)
I store them in a one-way valve coffee bag so I can push out all the air once sealed up. I also threw a bunch of moisture absorber packets in there. I keep about 6 months worth of blades in the bathroom cabinet.

I just bought 395 Derby's on the BST! That is like 1200 shaves for $19! Derby's work very well for me! My 34C and DE89 both just love this blade!
LOSER/BOTOC I will buy your unwanted Sathly live blade head!
Not sure of the exact count but it probably looks something like this:
GBE's - 400 (split between US and Oz)
Personna Reds - 200
Other Personnas - 50
Odds 'n' Sods - 50
Should be enough for a little while.
Nanna.
