Talking I just figured out the Gillette Tech

Hello everyone. From those who know me on here know that I have a gold Gillette Tech and I like it but I never could get a close shave with it. I just could not get "feedback" from the razor such as hearing it cut the hairs. I could not tell if I was just running it over my face or shaving with it. That all changed today, here is what I used:

    Gillette Tech
    red box IP blade
Kiss My Face fragrance free (free 1oz sample)
    Tweezerman badger brush
Swan Pacific Blue AS from Dollar General

If I had to sum this up in three words they would be "best shave ever". The KMF did not feel as slick as my VDH deluxe puck, yet it made a richer, thicker lather. I am not really use to a nice lather so this was interesting to me. I got "feedback" from the razor this time. I could hear it cutting yet did not feel the hair being cut. Hearing the shave helped me to keep a correct blade angle (for those who do not know me...I am visually impaired so I can not see the correct angle). I was able to comfortably perform a 3 pass shave with no irritation at all. I did a N->S pass, XTG pass, and ATG pass and I am a bit hesitent to say this...it was better than my favorite razor my Lord Merkur Tech.
After the shave I applied my witch hazel and there was no burning at all. When that dried I applied the Swan AS from the Dollar General and again no burning. I do have to add this, for me the Swan knock off of Aqua Velva from the DG is far better than the Barbersol....simply because the Barbersol has too much cooling and menthol in it for me.
To those out there who know how good the Gillette Tech is, well consider me now a huge fan of this razor. For those who have not tried the razor...try it.
Now on to the KMF sample. If I have to sum that up in three words they would be "it is fantastic". No skin irritation, no burning, and it just works. It does not have a fragrance at all which is fine with me. I now know of two ways for me to get a BBS shave...one is from this method and the other was using this method:

    Lord Merkur Tech
    Red box IP blade
    VDH deluxe
    Tweezerman badger brush.

By the way...and I am happy about this....the BBS shave I got today was feeling with the grain AND against the grain, shweet.

Good news. This is encouraging ad I'd like to be able to find the sweet spot with a Tech. I've only gotten one really good shave from one and haven't been able to duplicate it.

Could be time to give it another try.

    Keep up the good work!

Congrats. I have two Techs because they shave so well. I keep one cased for travel and the other on my razor stand.

Make sure to screw everything together tight. If the head is a little bit loose, performance will drop.

I shave with a Tech too, it is very good.

    Congrats!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Techs!!

I have tried no fewer than 20 razors, and still find that I love my Tech: it shaves great, and the simplicity of the razor means it was built like a tank, so it will provide for many generations of service.

I am happy to hear that you had a great experience with the KMF Unscented too.

For you next test, have some fun, and mix the KMF Unscented with some Williams!! The resulting lather will be very rich, and luxurious. It really is better than the two products separately.

Love my Tech. It's the only DE razor I still use (the others stare on longingly).

I just ordered a Feather Portable from Pauldog, though, because for me the Tech is not quite aggressive enough.

Glad you got the hang of it!

I'm so glad I bought that Tech and that others feel the same way I do about it.

What is the Barbersol that you speak of? It is relevant to my interests.

Dollar General sells a Barbersol aftershave in two flavors for $1.25 each. It does what an aftershave should but the menthol and cooling effect is to intense for me. Mix the KMF and Williams you say? Super lather time? Hmmmm, sounds like I have tomorrows shave all planned, the question is go i use the Gillette Tech or the Lord Merkur Tech? I will use the Gillette Tech that way I can guage todays and tomorrows shave...with the only change being the soap. Then the next two days use the LMT with KMF and then KMF with Williams. :)

Yep that is the stuff, I think it will be fine for most people but it is too intense for me. :)

Techs are definitely amazingly smooth and comfortable. Can't quite get a BBS from one cause it's just too gentle, but I still get great DFS+ shaves

    Yeah, that but also this:

I have not tried the Brisk yet, but the Pacific Rush has a menthol content that is off the charts it gives me the cooling feeling for 5-6 minutes, and maybe even closer to 10.

Both versions are available through Dollar General.

    Congratulations Paul!

I'm glad it's coming together for you.

If the KMF cream wasn't slick, you may need more water. You'll get the hang of it.

    Keep up the good shaves!
