    Default Palmera scales...Need advice please.

I purchased a NOS 7/8" Palmera but the scales had been badly fitted and so I have changed them. What I want to know and need advice about is how do you remove the Silver Palmera logo from the old scales and put it on the new scales?
I used a piece of white paper micarta for the new scales, silver pins and ebony wood for the spacer.
Here are a couple of photo's of the finished result.

Here is a photo of the pin I removed.I think someone had hit it with a lump hammer.

Finally a photograph of the old scales showing rust around the pins and the pin hole on one of the scales is off centre.(Maybe why the pin was bent). I put the piece of new scale micatra material alongside for interest.

Incidentally, it's a fantastic smooth shaver. Just the scales were poor.

That logo is an inlay... the logo is carved into the scale, then filled with the silver.

I never thought of that. The silver has the word Palmer written on it and some hand work on the palm tree and around the pyramid.

I assumed the scale was impressed with a hot stamp in the shape of the silver logo and then the silver bit dropped into the impression. No matter.

I held the scale over a steaming kettle until the plastic became rubbery and just bent it gently. The silver bit popped out sweet as a nut.

Next stage I think will be to super glue it onto the new scale. I'm not skilled enough to etch the shape in the micarta by hand.

    For future reference
Celluloid dissolves in acetone, that's what I use to lift them quick, neat, and easy, and you don't ever bend them that way...

Hint: Always clean and polish the inlay "Before" lifting it...

Always test the CA on a scrape piece first to make sure it is not going to cloud.... once you place the inlay you are stuck with it...

Nicely done on the new scales too BTW !!!!!
