Default Does this look familiar to anyone?

I thought i had done everything correct, but this is the result. Though, i did use a Mach 3. Prep was a hot shower, got a nice lather, used a short gentle stoke with the grain.

    Shaving Cream: Poraso
    Aftershave: Polar Ice
Brush: Crappy Synthetic that was thrown away after shave today because of bristle loss. (in market for new one, suggestions appreciated).

    Any suggestions?

Seen that before too. You might what to check your neck area to which way the hair grows. You might be shaving ATG unexpectedly. In any case I would say too much pressure and start using a non-alcohol based aftershave balm to help reduce that redness. Nivea Sensitive Post Shave balm is cheap and you can find it many stores and is great for just starting out.

+1. It might pay to map your beard growth around the neck area. Did you use a new blade?

I feel like i have it mapped out nicely, and yeah it was a fresh blade. Im leaning towards a pressure problem as the hairs on my neck grow tightly towards the skin. They just dont seem to want to stand up for easy cutting.

Yeah. You definitely have to lighten up. Don't try to remove all the whiskers in one fell swoop. Map the grain, and do a light-touch with the grain pass, then relather and try to go across the grain.

Another +1. Nivea makes a great product, IMO.

+1 here too. Along with mapping your beard growth, reduction passes will help clear this up.

As for a suggestion for brush, start off good--go for something in a best/super badger. The initial cash cost will seem high, but remember, this will last you a long time. Also, don't toss it after the first use like you did your synthetic; brushes lose hair, plain and simple. No knot is perfect, so every brush is bound to shed, and they will do so even more when you first start using it. Let the loose ones fall out, it won't hurt anything. If you are losing a few each shave, then that may be a concern.

Slow down on pressure, get a good after shave lotion, like the Proraso after shave balm cream, and maybe give a try to Clubman bump repair gel.

Oh yeah. Been there, done that. You need to shave WTG, and no pressure. Give it some time for your skin to adjust to the shave. As your technique improves your skin problems will too. When you get that again remember what you were doing that caused it. Give that area a couple days off from the shave. Don't give up.

I would also go with a pressure issue...

For the brush, try an Omega Bristle, for $10 they are quite good and will get you started!

By the looks of your neck and the fact that you shaved with the grain, I would say an allergic type of irritation rather than razor burn.

All of these are good pieces of advice. I would suggest having a third party take a close look at your neck to see if they have a different perspective on the direction of hair growth on your neck. I suggest giving your neck a rest for at least a few days. Allowing your whiskers to grow for a few days will also make it easier to ensure you have mapped your hair growth correctly. Please let us know how it goes.

    Did you map visually ??

Try using a cotton bud and rub it around the face. You'll know when you're against the grain

Visually I thought I had my face mapped but the humble cotton bud told me otherwise.

    Oh, and yes, NO PRESSURE
