    Default Vision 2000

Hi everyone and happy holidays. My wife gave me a Vision 2000 razor for Christmas and I have a question. Is the V setting the most aggressive or least aggressive? Any info and or tips on using the vision would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The V setting is the most aggressive setting while N being the least aggressive. That's a serious razor your wife gave you as a present. It was also my first razor and it was too much for me to appreciate DE shaving. I purchased a Merkur Progress and got involved on this site to me able to handle just the basics.
The main thing I learned is to just turn off the water while shaving so you can hear what is going on. The razor is so heavy the weight of it does the shaving for you, even on setting N.

The Vision was my first razor and it was just fine. I would not worry at all. Just go slow and you will not have any problems.

    Thumbs up

My first razor was a Merkur Classic and, after about two months using it, my wife gave me a Vision 2000 for our anniversary. I think I've used the Classic about three times since then. I love the Vision.

Mine closes up almost completely on its least aggressive setting and is extremely aggressive at the other extreme. So it is, in effect, infinitely variable for any setting I would want to use. If it isn't whacking the whiskers, I just open it a tiny bit at a time until it is shaving me. If it takes a bite, I close it up a little. That's all there is to it.

I like my vision too, but do not have any other decent quality DE razor to compare with.

I have never opened it up more than the O setting.
    Usually it sits at N.
However, I still get great shaves when closed further than N.

The further open it is the more likely I am to cut myself and also the alum stings a heck of a lot more post shave which I take as an indication of too aggressive a shave.

Enjoy, it is a lovely razor.

Please post your thoughts on the razor after you use it :) I've been curious about the Vision for a long time now.

    Hi All,

I'm new here and this is my first post. I too got a Vision for Christmas. I had been shaving with a Mercur HD for about a month and was getting pretty good shaves with a badger brush and proraso. I've been using the Classic Soap that came with the Vision set and the lightest setting on the razor but I'm not getting as close shaves and more razor burn than before. I've experimented with different angles and try to exert no pressure at all.

    Any tips?

    Thanks-

    Bob

I have the same razor and found that diffrent blades make a big diffrence, try expirimenting with diffrent blades as well...israilies, sweedes and derbys give me the least iritation. Merkurs and wally personas tore me up but I may give merkurs another chance since those are the ones that I learned with.

I seem to like Israeli's and Feathers best in my Vision.

Hi, Bob. I recommend trying LetterK's sampler packet. The problem *might* be the blades you're using. My Vision gives me lovely close shaves with no irritation---I use Feather blades, and light pressure and correct blade angle, with the setting around N. I use both shaving cream and shaving soap with it---doesn't seem to make much difference. Let us know how you progress with it.

This is a great razor that your wife bought you, it took me awhile to get use to it and as has been stated a light touch should be used. I get wonderful close shave with it and have been very impressed with it.

    Thank You Everybody-

I've already ordered my sampler pack of blades. I've heard alot of good things about the Derbys and the ultra-sharp Feathers. I also just read a post called 'Vision Surgery' at shavemyface.com and found that the razor wasn't propery set up in the first place! The most gentle setting (usually refered to as N) left around 1/16 in. between the blade and guard! I took the plunge and adjusted it so that it looked similar to my Merkur HD. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks again for all the great advice-

Got my new vision today. It's my first DE razor, and combined with a badgerbrush and a glycerin soap I get a shave that leaves mach3 in the dust.

I'm really looking forward to shave tomorrow.

Welcome to B&B. It is a great shave but do be careful -- many of us have sliced our faces with the vision and other DE razors. The vision especially is very heavy, let the razor do the work and *DO NOT PRESS*.

OK. First shave since the last post (I wanted to give my face a day to recover). Used the (newly re-adjusted) Merkur Vision, Classic Brand sandalwood soap whipped to a frothy lather and a fresh Derby Blade. As advised, I treated the vision blade head as if it contained a vial of nitroglycerin. After 2 WTG, 1 XTG and 1 ATG and 1 touch-up pass I had a very nice shave. Not quite BBS and not quite as close as I've gotten with the Mercur blades but after some AOS aftershave balm and a hit of Taylor's gel my face feels pretty good!

I must have a tough beard or lousy technique because I can't get a very smooth shave in less than four passes Of course we all know that a bad dancer blames the floor!

Next time I think I'll try the Feather blade and see how that goes.

Smooth Shaves to all in 2007!

Sounds great. Just keeping shaving and you'll find your technique improving without your quite knowing how. At some point---in a few months---you might want to try a Slant Bar for a good close shave.

Thanks Michael. My plan is to keep shaving in hopes that my hands will train themselves as I get more shaves under my belt.

I've heard a lot of opinions about the Slant Bar. What are the advantages?

    Thanks-
    Bob

Very easy shave---it slices through whiskers smoothly, so you feel almost no resistance. And a very close shave. Requires light touch, good blade angle, but delivers the best shave... well, one of the best shaves.

Would you say it's a better shave than the Vision?

Not really: the Vision and the Slant Bar sort of tie for closeness of shave for me. But the two offer a different feel. I like them both, a lot.
