Thread: Gem Damaskeene

  1. Default Gem Damaskeene

    Hi Guys,
I've been seeing a lot of Gems labled "Use with Gem Damaskeene Blades Only". Can these razors be used with a normal SE Blade or does have to be the special Damaskeene blades? What makes these blades different? Dan

You can use normal old Gem style SE blades.

Damaskeene blades were sort of a marketing gimmick at the time the razor was made. They were made of Damascus steel, to a keen edge. That's all.

Yep, what Chris said. I just shaved with mine this morning. Any modern SE blade will do.

The Damaskeene does give a very good, close, comfortable shave.

they used the word damaskeene to separate them from damascus.

They take a little getting used to as the shave angle is different compared to a DE, but they are great little shavers.
