'oven roast' ? at home

can i roast beans at home - in my plain old oven?

beans on a cookie sheet & move'em around?

anyone done / reccomend technique?

I've never tried that, but I'm guessing that to roast them evenly and not burn them, you'd have to open the door so often to rotate them that it would take forever.

It can be done, but I wouldn't recommend it - too long and too inconsistent.

I've heard it can be done in a gas oven, but I have never heard anyone recommend it.

Yeah, I think if you don't have a dedicated roasting machine, using an air popper or a plain old skillet tend to be more recommended.

Just be aware that anytime you roast beans you're going to create a lot of smoke, so vent the airways, watch the smoke detectors, etc.

Another solution is the Heat gun trick but you will definitely want to do it outside.
