I've been on vacation since Monday. The time off has given me a chance to catch up with some good friends:

I was lucky enough to get a bottle of Glenlivet 12 yo off "mar lady" for Christmas and another bottle of the same off her mum and dad. The daft thing is, she asked them which whisky she should get, so was flabbergasted at the duplication

+1 for Springbank. I love Campbeltown scotches.

One of the finest bottles that I've owned was a bottling of 21 yr old Springbank for a special range of spirits under the Tesco supermarket label in the UK. This would be about 1988 and the combination of sherry oak and salt was magnificent

The Springbank 21 was the finest Scotch I've ever tasted. I bought a bottle for the best man in my wedding. We drank a lot of it together.

that Hendrick's is by far the best gin I've tasted. Coupled with ice, tonic, and a cucumber and you're looking at my favorite gin and tonic .

I love cucumbers and I love gin and tonic, but that is a new one, to me!

The infusion bill for Hendrick's includes the usual plus rose petals and cucumber. Is it intense? No. Does it complement the other goodies used in the infusion and make the tastiest gin? Yes.

Oh, I understand that. All gin is basically vodka (GNS) infused with various botanicals, primarily juniper. I have no problem with cucumber being one of them.

But I thought he was talking about adding a slice or stick of cucumber to his drink, like an olive in a martini. Whatever floats your boat, I suppose.

Ben's right on the money with the cucumber infusion and yes, you are right about the slice of cucumber like an olive in a martini. Try it, it's good!

Who is Dorothy Parker and where can I find more of her writings....
I sipped on a bottle of White Star Champagne last night.. looks like I missed out on some marvelous other libations! Good Show Gentlemen!

Dorothy Parker was a popular poet and critic during the era of sophistication (40's - 60's, I think). While we have had a couple of her witticisms about martinis, she was really a serious poet.
