Newbie Wetshaving Progress Report:

12 October, 2009, about 3AM.

Merkur Futur, adjustment set @ 3
Feather Blade, day 2
Merkur Long Handled Brush
Omega Shave Cream

Three passes: WTG, XTG-chin-to-ears, ATG. Performed some blade buffing during each pass on certain difficult patches. Final pass followed by further touch-up, mostly blade buffing of difficult patches.

Applied alum block to wet face post shave. No sting in general, mostly cooling sensation with only a slight sting in the difficult, much blade buffed areas. This is a big improvement over my early days when the alum block would make my entire beard area scream in pain.

Rinsed off alum and applied Nivea After Shave Cooling Balm and Haslinger After Shave Lotion.

Comments:
—I'm improving in the "no pressure" area. Goal is to blade buff and have no alum block sting in those areas.
—No cuts, nicks, or weepers.
—Almost no post shave tactile sense of whiskers in difficult patches, even on stretching the skin and rubbing my hand against the grain there.
—Some general feeling of skin irritation, however. Not sure what the cause is, especially since the application of the alum block was mostly cooling.

Omitted the xtg pass to have a 2 pass shave today, with and against the grain. Didn't notice too many ill-effects, or any positive ones. From now on though I will use the cartridges until I get back to hot water shaves. They just seem more forgiving to my skin with the luke warm water

Love shaving when I'm supposed to be studying for uni
