I like the Palmolive (US), but I don't think the lather I get is anything to write home about. I normally prime my brush with some C-M soap for a nice scent and then start in on the Palmolive. This helps to mask the soapy scent. The Euro version seems to lather a little bit better for me (in addition to smelling nicer), but not up to the level of creams like Florena and Speick.

I get excellent results with Palmolive cream, personally, but I also tend to use the cream as the instructions on the tube state, which probably helps. The instructions say to wash face with soap, rinse, then wash again, leaving soap on, then lather the palmolive on top of that. Works excellently.
If you are having a hard time with the palmolive, perhaps try that method.
The scent is subjective, I guess. I recently had a couple blocks of natural green olive oil soap from the middle east, and to be honest, Palmolive smells almost exactly like them to me. It doesn't try to be a wonderful scent or anything. It is the plain shaving soap of creams IMHO.

I picked up a bunch of tubes at SavOn for sale for around 25 cents each. Compared to my normal creams of Toms and KMF (and even Proraso), the Palmolive smells like hospital antibiotics. I rarely use them.

I've thought of doing something like that to get a better scent. Whereabouts do you get essential oils?

I love the Palmolive and get great shaves with it. The scent is nothing unpleasant, but it just smells like soap. I've mixed it with both Proraso and KMF to make the scent more attractive.

Used Palmolive this morning, in fact. My face seemed to have a reaction to the soap I used yesterday, and was burning for an hour or two after I shaved and was still sensitive this morning. I reached for the Palmolive today because I needed something gentle and soothing.

Initially when I started this post I was not too impressed with Palmolive. But after reading some of the responses here I have been diligently using it for close to 3 weeks now. I must admit, it has grown on me...I even find the smell very appealing now...amazing how modification can work. Before the tube is empty, I will replace it for sure.
P.S. I have been following the directions on the back "wash face with soap - rinse - apply soap again and leave on face - apply Palmolive."

Gonzalo, you may have trouble getting Palmolive, it's being discontinued.

Gonzalo, we used to have Palmolive cream here in Canada, til about 20 years ago...I can't understand why our drugstores stopped selling it. Now, there's another very good cream from Germany called Florena, which is cheap, and it became very popular.
