Default How much would you pay for a Torrey?

I'm asking this to determine if the price being asked at an antique store is reasonable.

There is a decent, clean, shoulderless Torrey in a 2-razor box with a Portland OR marked razor with similar scales. The antique dealer is asking $65 for each razor, or $120 for the "set". i know I'm not willing to pay the $65 for the somewhat generic razor, and was thinking of offering him $25 or so for that razor, but need a better idea of the value of the Torrey...

Does anyone have any sources of info that I could check for what Torrey's are worth?

antique stores are either overpriced or underpriced. In this case, they are probably overpriced.

You could check past ebay auctions to see if there were any similar razors listed. That would give you a ballpark figure to start with.

You can buy a new DOVO basic carbon steel razor for about $70.

A vintage razor is worth what someone will pay for it, but if the razor is in good condition and if the razors shaves better than the basic new DOVO, which it probably will, I see no reason why it's not worth more than $70.

If it needs cleaning and sharpening and its worn, Id say its worth significantly less than $70. Maybe $25.

Most American razors are undervalued. You can usually pick them up for a good price. Torrey happens to be a great razor and if its in great condition is well worth the price. Its far better than any current Dovo production.

I would not pay 70 dollars for a Torrey that had been honed recently unless it had brand spanking new scales and a killer finish. Chances are good that the 65 this seller is asking is WAY too much.

Yes, but 65 dollars is not a good price .

And now the price of ebay Torreys will shoot through the roof...

Seriously, it's NOT worth 65 bucks. Quality blade or not. At 65 bucks, it would need to almost be NOS

Thanks for all the responses, this gives me some information to try and go make a deal with the dealer.

I'm thinking $40 for the Torrey, $15 for the generic, and $15 for the two-razor box, and if he doesn't like it walk away. (I know, this is more than what I saw any Torrey's going for on ebay. in the last month.)

ive bought 3 or 4 torreys from ebay (i used to live in worcester, ma, where they were made) and generally they go for 30-40 in ok condition. sometimes people value the novelty handled ones higher (corn cob, scrollwork, etc) and they do make good shavers.
