    Default Geneva Refurb Help

What scales should go with this blade and how much shoul I spend? I spent 4$ on the blade. Little or no hone wear.

Is it easier to hone before the scales are attached?

    See picts.

You're really only limited by your imagination. Here's a list of things I've made scales from (probably not complete)
Cocobolo, wenge, bocote, canary wood, padauk, ironwood, maple (my favorite), black maeri, kauri, rimu, blackwood, bubinga, olive wood, black palmeira, laburnum (another personal favorite), horn, plexiglass (both clear and colored), rosewood, yellowheart, purpleheart...you get the idea. I've seen them made from advertising signs, circuit boards. I'm partial to wood, but anything you like (almost) can be made into razor scales.

And no, it's not easier to hone before the scales attached. Not having scales makes it terribly difficult (I can't do it, so I have a set of "portable" scales...put a pin in, wrap with electrical tape, and go to town) It's easier to clean w/o scales, but tough to hone.

    Thumbs up Big Thumbs Up

Nice job. That looks great. What's the handle made of? I can't tell.

Thanks for the encouragement, the scales are DOVO "Pakkawood" that I tongue oiled. It's probably more than I should have spent for scales being its just a generic blade. O well it sharpened up nice and shaves nice. Also my first scale job.
