i'm about to embark on my straight razor journey
a freshly honed w&b and a beginner's strop will be making their way to me in the next week or so from rup razor
i suspect that for starters i won't be wanting to do more than stropping and perhaps touchups myself
1) can you suggest an appropriate reasonably priced barber's hone?
2) i pm'ed to buy a colonel conk arkansas stone (the paddle sort) in another thread - mainly to keep my kitchen knives sharp, but am wondering if it will do
3) has anyone ever heard of "fly edge" hones? somewhere packed away in old things from my folks, there is a flat, grey stone - perhaps 2 or 3 inches by 6 or 8 - and on one side toward the end i remember it saying "fly edge" or "flyedge" - i always assumed that it was something my father used for fillet knives or hunting knives, but as i remember it it's fairly similar looking to some of the kleen kutter hones i've seen depicted - wondering now if it was for a straight
any ideas and recommendations appreciated
best,
