    Default red tip blade recommendations

    I just got a red tip last weekend, and heard everyone on the board talk about its aggressiveness.

    To counter this, I threw in a dorco 301 blade. Hoping the combo of an ok blade with a razor like the red tip would be a good way to not cut myself.
    This morning shave was UGH.. and the quality of the shave just isn't there.

    I have sharks, gillette perma sharps, gillette blacks, and feathers.

    I also have access to Pasteurs in NYC and can pick up Sharps, Astras, Personnas, Derbys, etc.

    Which do you guys recommend in the red tip?

    I use Israeli Red Pack Personnas, but that's because I've found that aggressive razors + smooth blades is a combination that works well for me.

    Just last week, I decided to try a Feather in my Red Tip. Wonderful. It's the first time that a Feather has given me a smooth shave.

    The Red Tip's "aggressiveness" is overblown, it's really not much different from a 34C. Try a Slant.

    The Sharks you have or the Derby's you have access to ought to do it.

    +1 on the Red Pack, this is my go to blade for most of my razors.

    I would add Blue-Bird to this list as well. Smooth, close and comfortable in a Red Tip S/S.

    Red Packs, Gillette 7 o'clock greens, Derbys, or Feathers should all work well in the Red Tip. I know they did for me...

    I love Feathers in my red tip. I was a little worried at first. All the talk of "aggressive and supersharp" but I find it is very smooth. I don't even bother with the Derby's in the red tip. Tried it a couple of times and did not like it one bit.

    Feather. No doubt. That's the one. Just do it.

    Let me repeat;

    Feather.

    The aggressiveness of the Red Tip is really over stated. I use the red pack personna with every razor I shave with. I get the same shave with the Red Tip as I do with the Slim or Fatboy set to maybe a 4. That's a lot less aggressive then an Old type, New Improved or any of the Gems. Just use whatever blade you normally do. It's a great shave.

    Like others I recommend the RIPs and Derbys in the red tip. I also get very good shaves with this razor using Gillette Sharpedge blades.
