Default C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries Bay Rum aftershave balm

I was at Bath and Body works tonight picking out some gifts for my grilfriend and mom whe the "Mens" section caught my eye.

I gave up all hope of not buying anything for myslef when I saw there was a Bay Rum aftershave balm.

I also noticed they had a Bay Rum cologne, a shaving cream and a few other items I cant remember off the top of my head. I almost got the cream, but after further inspection, it is basically Proraso.

I'll post my thoughts on the ASB tomorrow. Has anyone else tried any of their products?

    Default C.O. Bigelow Store

I don't know about the ASB, but my wife took me into their store in Woodfield Mall (the big one outside of Chicago). Not only did they have their own brand, but they also have a great inventory of Trumpers! The Woodfield store is huge and has some other brands, but a whole wall of Trumpers. The sc tubes were $22.

    Peace,
    Jim

I tried this stuff out this morning. I decided to match with MB Bay Rum soap, and Taylor Bay Rum after shave splash.

My initial reaction is that my face feels nice. It is about the consistency of Proraso ASB, but much harder to get out due to a small neck. I'm reminded of getting ketchup out of the glass Heinz jars.

I'm going to use it for another week before I make any real judgments on it. The only odd thing I noticed is that this is the only ASB that has made my face burn. It was similar to the burn of alcohol based splashes. Not as bad as Clubman Bay Rum though . One of the ingredients is Alcohol denat (Denatured Alcohol I'm guessing). That would explain the burn. Given that fact, this product might not be appealing to people who dont like alcohol based splashes.

The trumper is carried at CO Bigelow store, not to be confused with Bath & Body Works (which carries CO Bigelow stuff)

I think C.O. Bigelow products are excellent (they repackage Proraso green in their own tube, so how bad can they be), but I found their Bay Rum cologne was nauseating. It smelled a little rummy at first but then dried down to a very non-spicy scent that disappointed me. My favorites are D. R. Harris when I want something short lived, and (believe it or not) Pinaud when I want to smell spicy all day and night.

This sum may be soon spent, the regret only remaining of having foolishly consumed it; but in the other case, he escapes the frequent vexation of waiting for barbers, and of their sometimes dirty fingers, offensive breaths, and dull razors.
