Unlikely to break as long as you're careful. I use a Dremel rotary tool with a sanding drum and it makes easy work of enlarging brush handle holes. You could do the same by hand with a dowel and sandpaper, but it would take quite a bit longer.

+1 for the dremel and a sanding drum attachement. works like a charm.

Excellent job, Dave. That looks great and should be a fine performer!

I am trying to restore a ever-ready 200t. It is not in the best condition. The top of the handle is a bit warped, but it will still work out I believe.

That is absolutely one of the best looking brushes I've had the pleasure of viewing. Congratulations on being the owner of such a work of art! May I ask where you found that beauty?

My Ever Readys (left to right):

150 with 20mm Whipped Dog silvertip knot set at 50mm
300PBT with 18mm Golden Nib silvertip grade A knot set at 48mm (my first restore, which I posted earlier)
300PBT with 18mm Savile Row silvertip knot taken from an SR3118. Corners rounded just a tiny bit. This is my current favorite brush. My father had a 300PBT when I was a little guy, so I have very fond memories of that, and the Savile Row 18mm silvertip is my favorite knot.
