If you were going to get a ridiculous big X-Mass bonus would you buy this brush http://www.coutellerie-faget.com/eng...sp?id_item=278 . I'ts a Plisson High Mountain Badger with a handle in true horn. It would be my second brush in my "collection."

I haven't herd great things (good but not great) about this brush company or Simpson's for that matter but It is a personal choice. I don't think I would spend that much on just the fact its real horn. It would be a nice conversation piece.
But i have heard good things about the SR and Shavemac bushes. They are on my list!
What is you other brush?

This one here http://www.classicshaving.com/catalo...30/2179606.htm would you - I'm new at this- consider this a good brush.
Absolutely not. No brush is worth almost $400. I don't care if it was handmade by the Pope.
If you're looking for a brush, there's a lot of options out there that are way more sensible, and may actually be better brushes. I don't own one, but I think I've read Plisson owners on here saying they're nice, but nothing that special. Might I reccommend you put $105 aside for the B&B forum brush?
This is one of the many 'diminishing returns' items... after about $100 to $150 or so, you are just spending more and more but not really getting a lot in return.
If you've got $400 extra to spend, get a nice $150 brush and then blow the rest soaps and creams you don't have!![]()

I have the Plisson and it's a really nice brush. I have not had any problems with it and it is a joy to use. Another option you might consider is a Rooney's Finest. Another fantastic brush that if I had to choose between the two, I'd take the Rooney's.

Aaron- you're right, thats better use of the funds, and you can learn a lot more in the mean time.
Thanks
or, take the $400 and buy an assortment of brushes (SR, shavemac, rooney, vulfix, EJ, superior, etc.). that way you can see what you really prefer.
it would be fun to sort through the thread recommendations and make the picks.
The Plisson HMW and the Rooneys finest are very different brushes and are both outstanding performers. If you do decide to buy a Plisson, Atkinsons of Vancouver (google it) offer good prices and -20% for members. There's been a lot of hand wringing about value for money on this forum recently. Although I don't own one (yet) Savile Row seems to be the current winner in the bang for the buck stakes so it might be worth trying one of these to get a benchmark.
Doesn't look like its worth it.![]()

I agree, I don't think its worth it either. Plus I don't know how to explain to my wife the credit card charge of $400 from www.coutellerie-faget.com. (Don't get mad at me that was the name of the website.)![]()
If your WANT list is short, why not go for it-

It's not made in England. So that's a no.
(only kidding)
I'd probably only fork out that kind of money for it if I was stark raving bonkers.
Now where's my debit card?

If you take it as a luxury item, fine, but don't expect drastically different performance or feel for that money. If it was me, the answer would be a resounding "no".
In a word, NO - for all of the reasons expressed above.
In my highly biased personal view, the only reason to get this brush (or any other brush that costs this much) is to own a very expensive, somewhat rare brush purely for the sake of doing so.
Definitely: "NO"
If i wasn't a brushaholic i would never, ever have bought my horn handled HMW Plisson #20 nor my Simpsons Manchurian Polo #14; they aren't worth it.
There's ABSOLUTELY NO NEED to buy a shaving brush more expensive than a SR or a Shavemac, still without doubt the best value for price brushes on the market.

I'd rather spend the money on creams, aftershaves, and use a more affordable quality brush.
I am a "bang for the buck" shopper, and can't stand the thought of spending that much on a brush. Heck, spending $1000 on a pair of "bookshelf" speakers to me is insane (odd having an audiophile say that, huh?).

Get the B&B brush for $100. Then you have $300 to blow on Mama Bear soaps!![]()
