    Default Tweezerman Question

I have a Tweezerman and a brissel brush with wooden handles. The wood finish is very thin on both. I really like the T; it's a lather making machine! Is it worth the effort to put a couple of coats of Poly U. on the handle to protect the wood from moisture? I know it's a cheap brush, but that's no reason not to want it to last a long time. I'd hate for the hair to out last wooden handle!

I own & love the same Tweezerman brush. I personally have not experienced the same flawed finish, but I guess you can try the poly route. For $10. I would just wait for some sort of noticeable fall off in badger-hair quality and then toss it for a new one.

I too have one, it is a good brush and I have no regrets over the purchase. It has served me well and you are right, It is a lather machine, in spite of it's small size. I do agree with your desire to care for your brush and make it last as long as possible.

I've never seen these brushes locally. Where might I obtain one for my collection?

    Thanks, Jeff

    Wow....thanks for the link.

Buying it from there is a no brainer then, if you want this brush....its more than that at Whole Foods. But, if you must have it "now"....

dunno if this is any help, but I just had a very long conversation with David Borek of Blankity-blanks (.com) and he does not recommend any type of coating on a wood brush handle as it will just peel off with time. He bakes his brush handles with some type of plastic to impregnate the wood all the way through. Dunno if it is the best method, but it sounded good to me!! I have one of his brushes under the tree waiting for monday so can't currently comment on waterproofing yet.... but I do know he sells the wood handles on their own (how you'd get the bristles out the old one to keep is an interesting question though!!) Maybe just plenty of coats of oil or wax on the old handle?

Dude? it's a $10 brush, is it worth the trouble?

Hey, if it's a $10 brush and you want to experiment, what the heck, slap some Benjamin Moore on it & have it match your house!

I've badmouthed the Tweezerman because mine popped the entire bristle load while I was flicking it dry after the third shave. But it has served me well for six months since I re-glued it. It is a decent brush while it stays in one piece.

If you have the hankering to cover the handle with paint, shellac, wallpaper, whatever, there's not much to lose if things go wrong. I'm a tinkerer by nature and I completely empathize with the urge to make things better.
