Default Are TOBS and T&H the same (Lime & Rose)

Please note, I am in no way "trash talking" this vendor, just trying to find out if I'm crazy or not before I ask for a replacement or refund.

After going through my official T&H cream sampler which included all scents except for Sandlewood and Rose I decided I liked the West Indiam Limes and the Lavender scents best. I also decided that I absolutely had to try T&H Rose based on the reviews here on B&B. Before splurging $30 on a tub of each scent I thought I would compare T&H to the other 2 T's and so I ordered 1 sample each of Trumpers (Rose, Lime & Violet), TOBS (Lemon Lime, Rose & Lavender) and T&H (Rose). The samples arrived very quickly from The Shave Den and I finally had a chance to unwrap them last night.

To make a long story short - is it just me or is it possible that my samples got "mixed up"? Can anyone with both T&H and TOBS (Lime, Rose or Lavender) confirm if they both look and smell identical or at the very least extremely similar. I would hate to bother TSD for new TOBS samples if it's a known fact that they are so similar to T&H that they can easily be confused. I would also hate to fall in love with my TOBS sample and find out they weren't really TOBS.

Your experience with both creams would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention. The TOBS lavender smells exactly like the T&H lavender as well as far as I remember but I used the T&H lavender over a week ago so my memory may be a little off.

Well they are made by the same manufacturer, and Lavender smells like Lavender and Rose smells like Turkish delight .... I digress.
Even if the formulations are different, they still have the same essential ingredients.

I can't definitively say because I've never use TOBS creams.

But I, too, think the T&H West Indian Limes is "da bomb," and the Trumper's cream I tried was definitely not the same. Similar, but not the same.

Thanks to you both for replying. Just to clarify, the Trumpers all smelled distinctly different and I'm absolutely satisfied that these are indeed a different brand of shaving cream.

The scents and brands I am confused about are TOBS vs T&H (Lime, Rose and Lavender). So far the Rose and Lime of both brands look and smell identical. The lavender from both brands also looks and smells the same as far as I remember (all the way back to last week). I'm wondering if TSD didn't accidentally put T&H creams in my TOBS sample containers by mistake.

Well, I don't know about the Lime and Lavender, but the Rose smells different. TOBS is a bit more subdued than the T&H to my nose, but the scent is very similar. Appearance-wise, they're about the same. The T&H is maybe a bit thicker, but not by much. I would have to see the samples in person, but I don't think they messed up.

I have used both t&h lavander and tobs lavander. They are quite different in scent and texture and color.

The only one I can offer an opinion is the Lime.
TOBS is actually Lemon/Lime and smells very "citrusy" if that a word. More towards lemon juice smell.
The T&H WIL has a very "bright" smell. Reminded me of Pledge : (
    IMHO they are not similar

I just recieved a sample of TOBS lavender in the mail. It smells really minty? Did your lavenders smell minty?

T&H lavender doesn't really smell like any other lavender cream I have tried.

Maybe they did make a mistake.

The three or four lavenders I've smelled, including TOBS and T&H, all smell the same to me, but I also hate the scent so I'm not as likely to notice slight differences.

Can't recall if the rose smells similar for both, I believe it does.

There's no chance TOBS Lemon Lime and T&H West Indian Limes smell similar. Either your nose is broken or the samples got mixed up. Those two creams smell about as different as you can get while still having the same "dominant" scents as far as I'm concerned.

Common misconception - there are as many variations on lavender scents as there are products that contain the scent. In fact, T&H lavender (I assume the OP is not referring to the Ultimate Comfort) is scented with a perfume-oil based scent, whereas TOBS lavender is scented with lavender essential oil. The T&H lavender scent is in the classic "English lavender" fragrance mode, similar to Coate's and old TOBS (pre-reformulation) lavender. Atkinson's English lavender cologne is another example of this type of scent. I'm not saying they all smell identical, but they are in the same family of lavender scents. Current TOBS is different. Being essential oil based, it smells more natural, and is more in the same family as Castle Forbes, T&H Ultimate Comfort and AOS. Color wise, the T&H and TOBS are pretty similar.

As far as T&H and TOBS rose creams go, they're more similar to each other, but they should still be distinguishable upon close examination. The T&H rose color is a very light pink, whereas the TOBS color is also light pink, but not as light, and with a slightly more purplish hue (I'm talking slight, not dramatic).

As for whether or not your samples got mixed up, that's hard to say. Since you didn't order the TOBS samples directly from the manufacturer, you're trusting that the seller got it right. TSD has a generally good reputation, but not having ordered from them myself, I can't speak from personal experience. Honestly, I think the veracity of their sample branding in this instance is anybody's guess. Mistakes do happen.

ok, I just shaved with it and to me it kind of smelled like Fruit Loops cereal? I was dissappointed. It performed great though! But I was dissappointed with the scents which is what I hoped for, I guess I might as well go with MWF soap.

Which cream(s) are you talking about?

T&H and TOBS are not the same.

TOBS makes my skin itch and gives me mild redness.

T&H does not. (Nor does Trumpers.)

Good question. I'm guessing one of the Lime scents?

If it was the T&H, I'd suggest that you continue shaving with it for a week or more before making your final judgment on the scent. I was mildly disappointed on the first shave, and then as time went on I liked it better and better. I think it's because I got such great shaves out of it that I began to associate the smell with a close, comfortable shave, which is obviously something I enjoy. Therefore, I began to enjoy the scent. Now it is one of my favorites.

    Give it time, my friend.

I love the scent of T&H West Indian Limes cologne. The AS balm and bath soap smell the same as the cologne. But the shaving cream lacks the really zippy top notes that define the scent of the cologne, and as such, I find I find to be pretty disappointing. If the cream matched the cologne more accurately, it would probably be one my of my favorites. As it is, it's one of my least, which is really a bummer.

Agree that the cologne smells better than the cream. I, too, love the cologne (although the Penhaligon's is even better).

That's one where you're up on me; I've not smelled the Penhaligon's lime. How does it compare to Trumper limes cologne, which is my favorite of all limes?

Thanks for everyone's input - I just needed to hear from others that there should be a somewhat noticeable difference (even slight) between T&H and TOBS. Someone's comment about the Lime being completely different is what really makes me believe I received the wrong sample. My supposed TOBS Lemon Lime smells exactly like I remember the T&H West Indian Limes. The Rose scents and colors i'm 99.9% sure are identical. The supposed TOBS lavender also has that "english lavender" smell like T&H and not an EO smell.

I will contact TSD today and see what they say.
