Saturday, early afternoon:
Merkur Futur with Merkur blade;
Merkur Long Handled Silvertip with lather whipped from Haslinger sandalwood shaving soap;
Bloc Osma Alum (yow!
) and Haslinger lotion.
I made a makeshift scuttle (sp?) by putting the bowl I built the later in (a nice piece of frosted glass that comes with the four piece Merkur Futur set) in a larger bowl, adding water to the larger bowl about 3/4 of the way up the side of the Merkur bowl, and heating it in the microwave. Really warm lather for each shaving pass...what luxury!
I also added another pass. I'm applying too much pressure on my left hand side, and not being as mindful of the passes other than the against-the-grain one. So I slowed down, tried to lighten up on my left and added an across-the-grain chin-to-ear pass after the across-the-grain ear-to-chin. Much, much less stubble left for the against-the-grain pass, and a BBS shave without buffing or redoing areas after the final pass.
But I still didn't ease up on my left side enough, so it still looks red and irritated.
I'm surprised how hard it is to get little/no pressure right. It really is a meditative skill.

Funny you just brought these out now; I decided to take my beloved puck of Arlington out of the rotation last week as Fall is seriously coming down here...
