what next--I love my vintage Gillettes

Which include a knack and SS. I want to get a shiny new one into the rotation and like the idea of the edwin jaggers/muhles. How do these compare with my Gillettes? I am sure I can't go wrong with a Merkur..but there is plenty of info about those.

I think you will find the Jaggers and Muhles a bit more aggressive than the SS.
The Jagger with the Muhle head is a great shaver and with a bit more gap between the blade and the bar than the SS it allows for a close shave with less passes but of course with a little more aggresiveness.

Don't let the talk about aggressivenes deter you, Jaggers are definitely still on the lower end of the scale in that dept.
