    Default Bone/ ivory scales

I found two really cool blades at a antique store near where I am vacationing one has mermaids carved into the scales and one has a naked lady, both are bone/ ivory, one is a torrey?, torey?, both blades are 5/8 and in very good cond, no rust or pitting, they are 124 each, if you want one let me know and I will buy them tomorrow before I leave.

Antique store=Haggling , after a short stint in sales I learned most prices are negotiable. Now that you have some knowledge of straights ( or can pretend that you do) you can tell him why his price is outrageous , the razor isn't worth that much etc.

3D carvings were not typically done in bone or ivory. The likelyhood is that they are celluloid. You can test by sticking a hot needle into the scales at a non noticable spot. Celluloid will melt, bone or ivory will not.

I think you should buy them before you try that.
