Default How old is this stuff?

Anybody know how old this might be? I'm guessing not that old but maybe 70s or 80s? It still smells great so I think I'll give it a try soon.

found this site while looking, was curious. http://www.cr8on.com/mugindex.html

It is probably the " LATE GLASS MUG 04 mid 1970s-1992"

Should work fine. I bought a bowl of Old Wrisley's on da Bay a few months back. Soap is at least 50 years old and Tallow based!

Shaves like a dream although the scent is completely gone. Just prep the puck by a good soak while in the shower.

I would also suggest dabbling a few drops on top of the puck, rubbing it around with your fingers and closing the lid overnight. This tends to rejuvenate the puck well. I've discovered that older soaps require this treatment over a few nights to get their mojo back.

You have the elusive lid to the old spice mug, someone posted in another thread, that they had never been able to find one.

That thing has a HUGE puck of soap in it!
I remember my grandpas mug having that big soap and the flimsy plastic lid when he got it.
Did they ever sell refills that same size??
To make my mug that full I have to melt Van der Hagen.
From what I can tell looking at the side of the mug in the pic I believe it is the mug just before the late glass mug 78-92.

    You lucky devil you.
Congrats on the score, I've been looking for weeks and weeks in antique shops for a decent OS mug, and you got NOS, PLUS soap and lid!!

    Nice score, T-ball!

I've been eyeballing some mugs with soap or soap on Ebay, and always look at secondhand stores, but, as they say, no soap.

My darkest wetshaving moment of shame (so far):

Decided to get back in the DE game. Went through the supplies I had. Found the OS mug, and it had maybe a quarter puck left. In the trash it went, along with the Gillette Brush Plus, because I figured the soap was old and new stuff had to be better.

Of course, I came here and got wisdom too late. At least I kept the mug, and it now is home to my Tabac.

Now, I'm thinking I may have to try one of the modern OS soap tributes, like the Aged Spice from Mama Bear...Any thoughts as to what to get?

Well that was my original guess too but then I saw a picture of a similar mug and people were claiming it was only 207 years old so that's when I really started to wonder....

Unfortunately I have no idea about any of the modern OS smell-alikes and I've never tried any of Mama Bear's soaps...let me know if you do though!

I just used this for the first time tonight and, guys, I have to say...this stuff is amazing. The scent has certainly faded but the performance is up there with the best I've ever tried. The lather was silly dense and super-slick. Wow. If you ever run across this stuff and the price is right, pick it up. They knew what they were doing back in the day!
