Thread: Three weeks on

Wow I am enjoying this whole experience!

Don't get me wrong there has been a huge learning curve but things are really beginning to work for me (though I must not get complacent!)

At the beginning I was getting many nicks and was beginning to wonder what I had done as my shaving rash and discomfort had intensified rather than decreased.

Then I found a decent internet connection and watched Mantics videos and read recommended articles and things are starting to move in the right direction. I am now enjoying smooth shaves and if really in a rush can produce a reasonably good two pass shave. The aromas produced by shaving creams is lovely and far more refreshing than modern foams.

Questions for those more experienced than me, any advice on how to get closer on the jawline? I have what I can only describe as a swirl growth and find this difficult again any advice appreciated.

Though I am a newbie and not fully qualified I would offer this advice for those starting the journey:

Failure to prepare is preparation for failure.
Remember it is called wetshaving for a reason.
    No Pressure.

Thanks for all of the advice here and the warm welcome, to those new to this journey be patient and enjoy.

Welcome to the mix andyg30! I'm sorry I can't help on the jawline, but I'm sure there'll be someone along who can point ya in the right direction!

    Great progress.

For the jawline, check out the method shaving subforum. Hopefuly, you'll get plenty of good advice in this thread, but you should consider taking a lesson from the method people, and maybe adapting some of their techniques. I do a sort of mixed method, part grain based and part method. I'd descibe it as finding the right mix of what feels good on your face and what works.

For the jaw line, there are a couple of different options. One is to make an "O" with your mouth, which will cause the skin around your jaw line to stretch, thereby making it easier to shave. Another option is to use your non-razor hand to stretch the skin. Mantic also discusses other methods in his advanced shaving techniques video. You will find what works for you in short order.

    For the jawline:
Put a little extra lather from the brush or bowl where the stubble is.
Look straight forward at the mirror and relax the face
with a VERY light touch, and a wet razor, do some blade buffing along the jawline.
Easy does it is the byline.
Watch Mantics videos on shaving tricks if you have not seen the one on blade buffing.
