Default Since firearms are OK here...

I thought I'd brag: I JUST bought my first Garand. It's being sent by CMP (who has about 100 days worth of back order, they say...but they'll speed up my order because I'm deployed?? Hmm...nice thought, though) to the house formerly known as mine, where a friend will sign for and hold it 'till I return.

    THIS I'm excited to fondle.

I really didnt think anyone else would care, honestly.

    Two words: M-1 thumb

    You'll only do this once

"The M-1 Rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised." Those words sum up the opinion of General George Patton regarding the M-1 Garand rifle. Many will agree with him, at least up until that point in history.

Great news. Stay safe and enjoy that rifle when you get back!

I knew I found the woman to marry when she grinned after touching off eight rounds through an M-1...

Congrats! I don't own an M1 but I sure wish I did. Be sure to post pics when you finally get your hands on it!

a great gun.kind of heavy but you are firing a full power 30 cal round so the mass is welcome.best of luck ,are you in the sandbox or the rockpile?

I keep being told everyone needs to own an M1.

I guess I'll have to add one to my collection soon.

    Congrats on the classic firearm.

What a fun rifle to shoot! An M1 from the CMP is on my shopping list. What grade did you order?

I got the service grade rifle. I'm extatic about it. I've wanted one for years and only recently checked out CMP. Prices outside of there, for a fair looking item, seem to start around a thousand bucks!!
Now I've been thinking the same thing I've thought about EVERY gun I've owned. "It's gonna suck when they come to collect this thing and turn it into a man hole cover."

    Ugh.

The greek CMP ammo is good stuff as well. I would recommend having a couple of those shipped to you before you come home, if you can swing it.

The m1 carbine is great as well

One of America's greatest battle rifles. It does have a significant flaw, however. Any of you gun nuts know what it is?

Enjoy your rifle--it's a beautiful thing. The first rifle that I ever fired that wasn't a rimfire. I'll never forget it.
