Cool New devoted wet shaver here : )

    Hi fellas,
My co-worker did recommend me to try DE razor and I totally did get excided about classic wet shaving. I end up with The English Shaving Company which provides Edwin Jagger DE razors and other stuff. So after couple days of investigation I end up with this set up:

Edwin Jagger imitation Ebony Chatsworth set (super badger brush, DE razor and maching stand)
EJ Black Porcelain Shaving Bowl with chrome rim
    2 EJ soap aloe vera
    GFT shaving cream - Sandalwood
Proraso shaving cream for ultra sensitive skin 150g bowl
    Derby Extra blades
    GFT block of alum

I had my first shave with DE razor yesterday and I used GFT shaving cream. At first lather wasīnt moist enough and it did dry on my face fastly ending up fying around my bathroom but after couple times I managed to make nice and smooth lahter and shave was excellent! I did take my time and didīnt use any pressure with DE razor and I eaven shaved XTG. Result was amazing and I had only one little cut under my chin and alum block was helpful here.

Im used to shave every day and I decided to shave again with DE today but this time with a soap. I think that lather was too lame and it also did dry my skin and the result wasīnt so good as yesterday because I got razor burns and some irritation. At this point alum block was a very painful experience :P But still result was excellent. I have tried many expensive and "normal" after shaves and I really like Gillettes new after shave balm which make my face look somehow more healty and fresh but it didīnt help with my razor burn today. Couple hours ago I took a shover and I diceded to try EJ sandalwood aftershave lotion sampler and I can note that its really great stuff! Redness is almost gone and my face feels moist and fresh but itīs very oily.

I think that I wont shave tomorrow so my razor burn can heal properly but do you guys shave every day with DE? Im pretty young (19) but I allways have shaved against the grain with Gillette Fusion or Mach3 and had no razor burn. Is it a soap or are my skin still getting used to DE razor?

Are there some good after shaves I should try? And what you guys think about skin food and other stuff?
I also did order Elemis Smooth Result Shave Oil and just a hour ago EJ aloe vera after shave lotion.

Any other tips are wellcome for newbie too : )

    Regards,
    Pavel

    Welcome to B&B!

Yes, I usually use a DE. On the week end, I use a straight razor. In the aftershaves, it depends what you are looking for. If you prefer an alcohol based or balm. Your skin type (oily/dry) will influence your choice too.

Skin food is a very good product. I would recommend getting the Geo F. Trumper sample pack off their website. It's a good value sample pack that will give you a good idea on their products.

Good luck on shaving with a DE, the only other advice is keep a 30 degrees angle in mind and no pressure. If you don't have a razor blade sample pack, I would advise to get one.

I'll skip a day on occasion, but ordinarily do shave daily. Your face-healing strategy is good, though, and will become less necessary with practice. Good luck, and a warm welcome to B&B!

    Welcome to B&B!

If I was you I would travel down to your local walmart and pick yourself up a bottle of Aqua Velva AS. It's cheap, smells nice, and highly effective against razorburn. Personally, I like the musk, your preferance may vary though. It looks like you're off to a good start. Just remember that if you have any questions to ask around the forums and I'm sure someone will be nice enough to chime in with a reply

    Good luck!,

Welcome to the B&B! Sounds like you've got the basics and are rolling along. The more you practice the less you need "healing time".

    Keep us posted!
