Good afternoon fellows,
I just wanted to say hello, and to thank you all for the tips and tricks for shaving.
I was recently given a DE shaving kit as a present for my bachelor party, and since then have been immersing myself in the world of DE shaving. My friend who gave it to me also posts here (thubbard76) , and told me come and feed the addiction to the wet shave. It was an awesome kit, a great badger hair brush (Don't remember the name, unfortunately I am at work.) Gillette Fat Boy DE Razor, Merkur Blades, CO Bigelow Shave Cream, and L'Occitane Cade aftershave. Awesome to use and very impressive to observe.
For some time, I had been very impressed by the manliness and the style of wet shaving that my friend had been doing, but didn't think that it was worthwhile for me to start. Unfortunately, I have been cursed with a substantial lack of facial hair. Even at 25, I can get away with only shaving every 4-7 days, with the only part that starts to get a little scraggly around my chin and neck. My father told me he didn't start growing substantial facial hair for years, so shaving isn't exactly a family tradition.
Until recently, all of my shaves have been using the Mach 3 and whatever shave gel was available in the shower. Three minute shaves, would get close, no nics or irritation. My biggest problem is around my neck, where I have mild acne that has always been there. This area would always get quite irritated.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, when I start using my new kit. First few shaves were a little underwhelming. Then I watched Mantic's videos, read some more about what to do, and really started understanding how the process works. Not only am I ENJOYING my shaves now, the area around my neck is starting to finally clear up little by little. I feel like Don Draper using my vintage kit. It's just nice to spend some relaxing time to wind down from the day.
So thanks for the tips, and I look forward to sharing my addiction with the rest of you.
