Default Treet Black Beauties...any good?

So a pack of 10 of these is super cheap. They're black and look unique...but they're Treet. And I've heard some horror stories about Treet products.

One of the better blades I've tried so far, but I probably won't explore much further as I have found at least 2 others I like better, and the extra hassle to avoid rust is not worth it. They sure look cool though.

Yeah, swishing it around in alcohol after every shave is a bit of a hassle.

    Love em.

i don't soak them in alcohol.

i just softly pat them dry after each shave, same as i do with all of my blades.

    1) IMHO, You have to do the alcohol thing for any carbon steel blade. It really works to maximize the blade (don't care about the rust, but it reduces pulling).

    2) For current production, the carbon steel Treets are good for me. YMMV. I think I believe Gillette's claim in the 1960's that about 30% of men will prefer a carbon steel blade and the rest will prefer stainless.

    3) I get one less shave from the Treet Black than an 80's Super Blue Blade. For current production blades, this is actually very good.

    4) This blade may actually be out of production, so stock up, I did!

For me they provided 1-2 really good shaves... considering that stainless blades last two to three times longer for me, I didn't buy more than one pack of those treets.

These carbon steel blades are a love 'em or hate 'em affair, and they work for me.

Same blade with PTFE coating all over, including the edge is known as the Treet Durasharp Classic: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=102638

I get 4 - 5 shaves with one of these vs. 3 with the Blue Special.

I've built a stash of the Classics in lots of 100 for less than the Blue Special at shoebox shave shop, the one source I'm aware of for the Black Beauties.

Good review, including microscopic edge pictures, here.

Squire's reviews seem to follow my blade experiences fairly closely (though I find Feather blades too rough for me).

Yeah I saw that review. They're cheap enough that I'll throw in a pack the next time I have to buy supplies. I've never tried carbon steel before so I'll give them a shot.

I would have been better off trying to shave with 'broken glass, everywhere'

I absolutely love these blades. They last as long for me as stainless blades (3 shaves). The DuraSharp Classic is cool too, and last for one more quality shave in my experience. All stainless steel blades for me have lasted for 2-4 nice shaves generally, and maybe 5 for a Feather.

There's a sale with Shoebox right now - I'm afraid they're on the way out. I've only got 150 stocked up right now.
