Hello Alex,
Yes it takes special blades. You can still buy them new, about $6.50 each on ebay. They are 50 years old and pretty dull. According to D.Irving79 you need to spend about an hour honing them and then strop them with the special strop that comes with the razor. If you get a Valet make sure you get the strop as well. Of course who knows how good the leather strop is at 75 years old or more. To me it is a novelty and a challenge to get one good shave from it. All I can say is good luck and don't get rid of your Super Speed. By the way Dave has about 4 videos on utube that will give you all the instructions you need to get up and running.

Daves videos are a great help, i have one which you need the special valet blades and was lucky to pick up some on e bay but as yet never tried the razor.
I have a couple of razors and some used blades. If interested, PM or email me.
My understanding is that there are at least two different models of autostrop razors. Mine will use a modified single edge blade. It works ok, but I haven't used it much. Now that I have some different blades to work with, I will try again.
I don't know what blades the other type takes.

Nick Rivers: Hillary. That's an unusual name.
Hillary Flammond: It's a German name. It means 'she whose bosoms defy gravity'.
Nick Rivers: I'm pleased to meet you. My name's Nick.
Hillary Flammond: Nick? What does that mean?
Nick Rivers: Oh, nothing. My dad thought of it while he was shaving.
