Raw VS Cooked Puerh

Is it just me or is there something magical about cooked puerh? Dont get me wrong I do really like the raw pu-erh as well. Man I am just loving this stuff!!

Im sipping on 2007 Menghai "7262" ripe pu-erh, today, and oh boy is it good.

Actually, and surprisingly to my palate, it is not just you. Perhaps I should try more. Nevertheless, I have never been able to muster any excitement about shu. I guess it's a matterr of taste

I've had some pretty darn good shu in my days as well. It really can be quite enjoyable. Different teas for different occasions is what I say.

You should drink as much shupu as you can, so there is more sheng for the sane people in the world.

That vile stuff has never made it past my lips. I tried it once. I couldn't get past the smell, and the second it touch my lips I dumped it. I have no desire to try it ever again.

now, you guys are really not being fair. While shu is not for everyone, it has its place. While I generally prefer sheng, there are times when my palate just needs a very nice shu. Now, granted, my shu of choice is a 1980's loose Menghai but a V93 is very nice from time to time.

Rule of thumb! The vast majority of people who drink puerh much prefer sheng. It,s much more complex and interesting than shu. The process of turning raw puerh into cooked kills a lot of the tea,s flavors and aromas. A poor substitute for aged puerh. But having said that, I do from time to time drink shu, the Menghai V93 being one of my favorites. But shu,s also need some time after manufacture so the production odors can dissipate.(several years) When new they can smell and taste very nasty. But welcome to the world of puerh. Your in the right place, that,s a big advantage for you as you have a wealth of knowledge right here.

I think theres no end to this since its much a personal preference. I personally do enjoy both on different occasion...

Im really liking both sheng and shu, Im enjoing some nice 08 menghai 7542 (805) right now and I must say its the best sheng Ive tried yet.

Sword of Doom is a great movie Chicken Enchilada. I must say that I love Ryunosuke's character. There is just nothing inside him.

I'm a big fan of shu. The 7262 is probably my favorite numbered recipe, followed closely by the 7572.

Do the little Dayi cups have the Chinese writing on the backside like the gaiwans? I rather like the little message, and in case you were wondering what it is, MarshalN gave a quick translation of it over at Teachat a little while back;

"Cha you da yi is how you read this one -- Tea has great benefits, quite literally, or, more prosaically, There is Dayi in Tea.

dayi happens to mean great benefit
