Default A cheek in both camps.

Well, I've now given myself BBS shaves two days in a row with a str8 I honed and stropped myself. It's a real feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment I have. I even enjoyed the funny looks on a couple of clients' faces when I insisted they feel my cheeks.

This morning though, I used one of my trusty Super Speeds. Only this time I re-lathered for an XTG pass, just like I've been doing for each pass with my straight. So I got just as good a shave in considerably less time.

What I didn't get was the sense of accomplishment I get from straight razor shaving. What I did get was reaffirmation of the knowledge that I love my Super Speeds too. So I'm probably going to be doing a combination of DE and str8 shaving. It will totally depend on what my feelings are each morning.

This is really the only sort of luxury I'm interested in: the luxury of choice.

I do sort of feel that it's like attending different churches on alternate Sundays (or Saturdays or Fridays depending on the religion) but I'm content to be a shaving agnostic.

DE= Oh crap, gonna be late for work.
Straight=I woke up early just so I can take my time doing this.

Here here! (Don't forget to try a Schick Injector. I was surprised...)

Guess I'm on Seraphim's list as well. While still new to Straights, I have been enjoying straight shaves on my days off, and DE shaves on work days (5 am is too early to put a straight to my face, and I've been enjoying my morning shaves too much to go back to shaving at night). I like the variety that shaving with both affords me. I also have an injector and a Micromatic waiting to be tried. There is just too much variety in the shaving world. People should shave with whatever they enjoy using. I don't think I'll ever give up my long-comb NEW, or my Tech with an uber-sharp Japanese blade, regardless of how much I enjoy straight shaving.
    I don't feel middle aged...

I just knew I wasn't the only guy who appreciated different types of shaves. I also have a Schick injector which I take on the rare occasions I have to travel (not counting backpacking) and be away from home for several days. It gives me a DFS and takes less room than a DE. At this point I wouldn't dream of taking a str8 travelling. That may change. I have some SEs too, but so far I'm not real fond of them. I am, however, really proud of myself for having gotten into straight razor shaving. It's the most gratifying good shave I think a guy can get... Well, if you discount getting a good shave from a scantilly clad Beyonce'. But it'd have to be a DFS at minimum!

Very true this one. And this is why I'm using a straight on weekends and my Slim adjustable on weekdays.

Still not quite there where I can get a great shave fast at 0600 with a straight..

I don't know about you relative newcomers, but I do two passes in under 12 minutes. Including stropping & lathering. I highly doubt I could do it faster with a DE.

When I use canned goop and strop the night before and only do 20 laps to refresh the edge, I can do it all in 5 minutes.

It is certainly something to shoot for in due time.

I felt confident enough to start straight shaving before work around the 3 month mark. But besides the end result looking terrible before then, it was more the need to take it easy and having an enjoyable experience. It's times like those I'd like to know what I'm doing first before I try a power shave

The funny thing is that I'm not power shaving. I wake up 30 minutes early so I can get a nice comfortable shave in. Wash my face & hair, shave & pack up my stuff, then leave. All in 30 minutes.

    I haven't used a DE in 3-4 months now.

If I pushed it, I could get a Mach3 quality shave (wtg only) including shower, stropping and lathering done in less than 10 minutes.
My normal shaves only last about 10-15 tops(not including shower)
