Default Not All Antique Finds Are Bargains

Just received this Goodwill I got on eBay. Had to chuckle when I saw this price tag. Guess it wasn't moving, the owner decided to auction it.

While the box was mentioned, it wasn't shown in the picture; and to my horror this price tag was SCOTCH TAPED to the inside of the box. The tape has gotten a good foothold so I guess it becomes a permanent feature

I would think an antique dealer would be cognizant of the value of a box for this kind of item, but maybe this appeared to be just a cheap old cardboard box.

I noticed some outrageous prices at another antique mall I looked in this summer. Are store/booth owners getting hip to higher prices, or is there significant negotiation room? Has anyone haggled a price downward at an antique place?

My closest antique mall won't negotiate on any price less than $20. At another place I was able to get 10% as I was buying quite a few items. (Strop, razors, & hones.)

It used to be a total buyers market but the prices are definitely edging up as the supply gets more scarce.

It varies from place to place. If you can talk to the dealer/owner; you can sometimes improve your deal but it is on an individual basis.

I've never need to haggle with a antique dealer cause i usually go to mall type businesses that house multiple venders. I have however told them that the prices set by the vender are outraggeous. For example a gillette new in good shape with blades in a fair box price 58.00.makes tou laugh out loud

I have found a couple of local antique shops that apparently have never heard of eBay because the razors I have found there have all been under $5. I just went to one the other day and found a $3 Senator and a $5 Ranger Tech in a basket of razors sitting on one of the display counters.

There are still good bargains out there. I have found some shaver quality razors for as little as two bucks.

There are also the laughably priced ones - a Valet Autostrop for $30.00 for example.

I had the same issue with tape on a box too. This is especially frustrating since it is at an antique store, not just some garage sale.
