    Default Ahhh, that's better...

I've been experimenting with my Fatboy. Using some Derby blades I thought I would push this guy as far as I could, dialed it to 7 and started a shave. OMG, it was a bloodbath! Figured I needed to dial down and went to 5. A few weepers and some razor burn. Next went to 3, a bit of razor burn on my neck but I kept all my blood in my body thank you. This morning, after loading a new Derby I dialed it to 2, did 3 passes (1 WTG, 1 XTG, the third XTG in the opposite direction). I also did a bit of touch up on my neck going ATG. Much better, no razor burn, no bleeding and while not BBS, it is a DFS for sure.

Keep at it. Derbys are what I use and it took me 2 months to work up the courage to do ATG.

You can do the same thing with a Tech.

Fatboy on 2 is basically a Tech with a less maneuverable head.

Well done. I'll take DFS over blood bath any day.

Maybe try a different blade...Derbys skipped like hell for me...and seemed rough...Feathers are like smooth sailing for me!

Most people work up from a lower setting, interesting to see the results of working in the other direction.

Glad it worked out for you though :D

In retrospect, that may have been the best plan of action

Keep mine on 4 also, 5 on the slim. Using Walmart Personna's.

Whoa you get a good shave out of the Walmart Personnas?? I bought them when I knew my Super Speed because I did not know when my derbys were going to be in as well. First shave with one of the Walmarts, was harsh.. I quicky swapped it out with a derby, and that was the better blade..

Now for the OP, sounds like your technique still needs a bit more work.. Once you have your technique down, you will be able to get a bbs shave on 9... Trust me, it took me awhile before I moved over a 5 on my Slim.. The real test is try a sharper blade like an Astra Superior, Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge or my personal favorite Feathers! Either blade will tell you how your technique is!
Just take it slow and keep it at 3 - 4 max of 5 until you get no irritation or a blood bath!

I'm on a 2 setting and see no reason to go higher as I'm getting a close, comfortable, no cuts, shave.
